"Future Heap Owner" (aperiodic)

So let’s talk about where we are in the impending full robotification of cars: on the morning of November 30th, 2018 (a.k.a. Today), for what is to my limited knowledge the first time, a stock production vehicle was pulled over by law enforcement on public roads with, for all practical purposes, no human driver.
On this morning, the CHP stopped a Tesla Model S on Highway 101, containing Los Altos Planning Commission member and apparent asshole with insufficient regard for human life Alexander Samek, who was unresponsive at the wheel, allegedly “ asleep” (later cited for a DUI) . The CHP vehicle, unable to get the Tesla to pull over through normal means, resorted to driving in front of the vehicle and driving for 7 miles (presumably gradually slowing) before bringing it to a stop.
Has anything like this happened before with a fully stock production vehicle? It seems like a milestone to me.
Here’s a real news article on it, c/o Ars Technica:

First I’ve heard of it, although certainly not the first time police have had to find a way to stop an out of control vehicle.
Probably this is a better situation to have than, say, someone passed out with their foot on the accelerator, or a driver who’s so panicked he/she can’t understand the reason the brakes aren’t working is because they’re using the gas pedal.

Well, the Tesla probably drove safer than he could in his conditi - WTF am I saying? NO. This is NOT an acceptable alternative to drunk driving. Get a real designated driver or stay the fuck home.

Wow, I had never heard about this! I even did a report on the Battle of Britain in middle school or something. Crazy!

He will still get a dui.
You can still get a dui riding a horse. The horse knows it way home even with a passed out person riding it.

That’s kinda weird. I suppose horses could still hurt people if they get spooked... but a whole DUI? Not a less severe ... RUI?

I believe there was one of those small Google self-driving cars pulled over a while back. It actually pulled over on it's own without the officer having to pull in front.

Not in New York State. I sat on grand jury duty, learned a lot about DUI law. If it is not motor operated (Combustion or electricity) then you cannot get a DUI. You can get pubic intoxication and open container citations, but you are not driving if it is skeletal powered.
