Orlando may actually be OK for a while.
In fact with all that loss of land, whatever’s left might rise in value...that is
,
assuming there’s still a society complex enough to use money

No, but there’s beer, I’m told. And lots of Floridiots.

I don’t care what she does. She’s obnoxious.

That’s like breathing soup. We live at 7000 feet.

7000 feet?
are you on the moon?

Yeah, but you’ve got civil engineers to solve the problems that stem from low elevation.
Florida has methamphetamine addicts.

Experts say by the year 2100 we’re gonna see about two meters of sea level rise. Unless she’s somehow buying beachfront property in Orlando, it’s not gonna be an issue in her lifetime and you’re just harassing her.
![]() 06/05/2019 at 19:52 |

That’s the nice thing about climate change: we don’t have to believe in it.

Is her not buying that property somehow go nna solve global warming? Your reasoning seems a bit inscrutable t o me.

Is her not buying that property somehow gonna solve global warming?
That is one of the dumbest things I’ve read in a weeks . It must be hyperbole because you write too well to be that obtuse.

She’ll be fine in Orlando. If water level does rise Disney will pay to put dams around the whole area. I live in Orlando, and some of the surrounding areas are actually hilly. I drove down a road and saw a sign the said hill blocks road view....

I’m just trying to figure out your motivations here. You’re ridiculing this woman for just going a bout her life in the face of something that a) isn’t going t o affect her and b) she has no control over.
Why were you even trying to dissuade her from moving to Orlando? If you were as radically liberal as you come across as on this site , you’d have been educated on the information I presented in my original comment. Thus, your words to her were pointless and the only reason I can think they’d have been said would have been to make yourself feel superior.
The other option is that you genuinely assumed Orlando would be underwater in her lifetime and you were trying to warn her, but I’d prefer not to think you’re as as dumb as you’re making her out to be.

So let me get this straight. She is nearing retirement age, which means she has like 20 years maximum left to live. According to the latest UN climate predictions, s ea levels are projected to rise 26 inches by the year 2100 . Orlando is 82' above sea level. Why exactly is she a dumbass ?
Sorry, but you’re just being an asshole here. We’re at least several hundred years away from Florida becoming the next Atlantis. This is not something someone her age will have to worry about in her lifetime.

I appreciate your first paragraph and I wish you’d said that at first. I did not try to dissuade her, only to ask her whether that had figured into her plans. The conversation went no further than what I reported.
I argue that “radical” is relative.
If Orlando doesn’t flood when a good hurricane blows through, then no, it’ll not be underwater.
So yes, I will grant you, my initial post was pretty trollish. Mea culpa .

There’s some information I had not considered in my haste to mock this woman’s aspirations. Thank you for injecting some factual information into my chicken-littling.

Yes, I am a troll. I confess. I posted in haste and my friends here have helped me to understand that because Oppo.

My point here is that global warm ing shouldn’t figure into her plans. It’s a non-factor. There was no real reason to as k her, so t o say what you said to her and the n mak e a post shaming her is a bit assholeish.

Don’t be too hard on yourself. I mean, your initial post was dickish, but on a scale of 1 to 10, “1” being cutting somebody off in traffic and “10” being genocide, you were like, a 2 at the most. Lord knows I’ve done worse. It doesn’t make you a bad or unpleasant person like some here seem to be implying . I find some of the responses here bafflingly judgemental to be honest.

You are very kind to say this. Thank you. I certainly don’t want to be the person that they are implying that I am. Some of those responses were building for a while. Some things worth reflecting on and definitely some things worth moving on from.
