So naturally I had to be different.
I bought the ‘09 GLI. I got it for $1k off ask, and it came with a huge stack of service records. The only real flaw I could find is the lumbar adjustment on the driver’s seat seems borked... I’ll address that later.
It’s pretty darn enjoyable to drive!

You think you can fool us with a change in one letter and a trunk?
That’s a GTI all right. Congrats!

nice I came close to buying a DSG Fahrenheit edition for my Wife once, but she was NOT into the yellow like I was. She, unlike me, doesn’t like the idea of driving a car that could get attention from others.

I tried to fool everyone by telling them the Beetle Turbo was also a GTI, but the car gods said no, and I bought a BMW instead.

If all I cared about was faster, I'd have bought something with a V8.

Ew. My wife wanted purple or baby blue, an ended up with a a car some where in the middle. I’m very happy with her choice. One time a very macho man that I knew saw me driving her car and said “why would you let your wife buy something like that” to which I replied “because we like it”

Nice, congratulations.
The red is fantastic with a nice buttery wax.

It needs a good detail... The dealer experience was fantastic, but their detailer SUCKED! It'll be a while before I can get to it, though. :(

“Because she’s a grown ass woman who can make her own decisions” would also have been an acceptable answer.

Sorry their detailer sucked.
But this way you get to enjoy doing it.

So far, so good. The shifter is slightly rubbery, but shifts are effortless and the clutch is smooth and light. Shouldn’t be a pain in traffic at all. I really need to fix the lumbar, though, and the thigh bolsters are telling me to get my fat ass back in the gym. But, it feels nice and balanced with good grip, and it’s a hoot when the turbo spools! I reset the MFD when I picked it up. On the drive from the dealer to work (about 2 hours) it told me I was averaging 34 mpg, and it’s only down to 30.5 after having a little fun on the way home!

You don't really see Jettas in Germany, I would argue this is a Mexican that crossed the border.

Yep. The Jetta only exists because American s won’t buy hatchbacks... UNLESS you lift them and slap some heinous black cladding on the side. Americans love them some #activelifestyle.

My mother has one with the VR6. Its 300+ hp offers enough grunt but I always wonder what that engine could do in a smaller car.
