I have a habit of tucking removed parts into the engine bay if I don’t just throw them on the ground. Since everything is black plastic, it’s easy to miss something when cleaning up. I’ve been driving around all day with the old aux water pump in there. This is not the first time I’ve done something like this.

I have a bad habit of leaving tools in the little channel on top of the fender. Like this spot. I once drove my Galant for 3 months with a screw driver there.

My hood won't close if there's something there so I have a built in safeguard for that.

So guilty of that! Every time I finish a project and try to satisfiedly shut the hood it bounces back up there because there’s like an entire socket set in the little channel over the fender

I added oil to my El Camino a few weeks ago which requires pulling the PCV valve and adding oil at through the valve cover. I then headed out for a 70 mile trip on the highway. I got about 4 miles before I could smell something and realized I had left the funnel in the valve cover. Not my proudest moment!

I leave tools in there all the time. It’s a terrible habit and you would think I would know to do a scan before closing things up, but no. The last time I drove the Camaro I heard some clanking coming from up front while headed down the road and naturally assumed that I had screwed something up but it turned out to be a ratchet.

i have a habit of throwing stuff in the the inner fenders of my trucks. half quarts of oil, brake fluid, spare belts, bolts, usable spark plugs ....... then i have to think REAL hard while i am driving around, if the rattle/clunk is something in the fender, or something new and serious. or when i do a preflight walkaround at the gas station, if the drip is something from the fender fell over......... BUT it sure is nice to have spares laying within reach...........

I’m fine with tools, there’s no colors or shiny metal under the hood so any forgotten tools really stand out.

I used to keep a spare thing of coolant under the hood. There's room for a full gallon jug.

I usually leave them in one of two spots, on the intake manifold so they blend in with the chrome air cleaner or on the little “shelf” the inner fender has that was originally for the evaporative canister so they are hidden under the curve of the fender if you’re standing in certain spots. Either way it’s still dumb.

the Galant’s hood shut just fine, the Rabbits closes, but is noticeably crooked

I’ve often left tools on top of the radiator on my Foxbody Mustangs, it’s a great little ratchet/socket tray.
But even funnier, I once found a dental pick loose
in the air dam/lower bumper
of my friend’s Mercury Cougar, and it ended up being crucial to getting the old water pump and gasket
off the engine that same day
. No idea how the pick got there, but it was a godsend for exactly when we needed it.

At least you notice that. Once I left a magnetic holder tray with some sockets in it on top of my truck’s battery, and didn’t notice when the hood didn’t fully close until my lady pointed it out.

I had an open backlock knife with a 3" blade sitting right here for over a year once. During that time I hooned the shit out of this car including jumping it.
I miss this car. Its such a strange color. I almost never see them in this color. Some day maybe.
Also GM gave you a spot on some trucks. My 1997 1/2 ton has this box where the second battery would be if it were a diesel.
