How could they trust it? Asking price is $1500 so that’s tempting, but not really because it’s at least a $4000 car if you want to use it.

This is not a real AMG, this is a CLK430 with the Sport trim, getting you AMG look wheels and bodykits. A 200,000 mile post ML Benz is interesting as it is, though.

if anything, it is remarkable that it is so miled up, don’t think I have seen one with so many miles . This era was not the pinnacle of MB quality.

I have seen W210 E55s with this kind of mileage.

The M112 and M113 motors have really proven themselves.

Its the cars surrounding them that occasionally have problems.

Rust, weathered plastics, and electronics that havent stood the test of time aside, im seeing a number of these that keep driving despite the little bits falling to the wayside.

At 200k id prepare for some valve gaskets and maybe an alternator, good chance interior trim is fraying, but yeah id drive it.

Not an AMG, but might be fun to buy and Rallycross until it’s dead.

Definitely.  Someone went by the book, and lived in a no-rust area.

I’ve been having a long end-of-life discussion about one of these with a very good client, most recently just this morning. It’s a CLK55 with 206,000 miles and has been a well kept tank, but the transmission is dying (the 722.6 is great, but I suspect shorter-lived with real torque  in front of it, I’ve seen them exceed 300k in E320s ) , the AC evaporator leaks behind the dash, it needs engine and transmission mounts, has ever-increasing oil leaks, and various body control systems are now intermittent at best. Many thousands of dollars in work. It remains a fantastic engine, but everything else is dying around it. We’ve been propping the poor old thing up for him while he decides what’s next, but if it stays on the road for anyone other than a technician who knows these things there are large, unavoidable bills coming. In short, bad idea.

Im not going to do it, just impressed by the mileage. Apparently old sc’s (or just luxury cars) have alot of those same thin gs going on, not so much body modules failing. But motor mounts, rear main seals , driveshaft bushings, subframe mounts, lcas, shocks, coilpacks, rack bushings are all stuff that’s failed or will soon on cars less then $ 2k or in excess of 250k miles

Funny thing, if I wanted longevity, the AMG might be the one I choose, for a 210/208 anyway. Very solid powertrain built to a high standard , not a lot else to go wrong, and you might get lucky and have enthusiast prior owners.

I have a friend that keeps buying high mileage AMGs. I think his current daily is an early 90's C43 with an E55 engine swap. I’ve driven it, it has 240,00+ miles on it, and both feels like it has that many miles and doesn’t at the same time.

Which is to say, it feels rock solid, but that the driver’s door has to be shut neither too hard nor too softly or it wont latch. I suspect everything on that car feels rock solid right up until it no longer functions.

He also bought this for an honest to god 500 dollars. It needs a new transmission, and will probably get the lemons treatment at some point.

Look closer at the ad. They put 200k in the title but in the specs: 2, 115, 000

I over 130k with my GTO, and nothing is wrong with it. I want to put lower motor mounts with a fast 102 lsxr intake  or lsa top end without it rubbing the strut bar. I also want a new aluminum radiator and duspeed over the radiator intake, because of shiny.

My sc has 198,000 miles, the one before that had 250,000. Having owned mostly Japanese vehicles I expect cars to make it past 180,000 w ith decent compression and reliability. My Hyundai elantra has something like 270,000 on the original motor and trans too.

On the other hand I dont expect an early 2000's european car to get those numbers.

I would expect an early 2000's performance euro car to get to those numbers if the owner loved it.

But past the 3r d owner, luxury  owners stop maintaining them, or at least giving them the attention more expensive cars can require

I’m talking about a one owner car. There was that 2000s 911 turbo with over 300k on it that was still in very good shape.
