Kinja'd!!!

Yes, so the beloved 2006 Audi A3 3.2 Quattro that we purchased about four years ago was finally sold...to me. How it was decided that the Audi was to become mine was not particularly a decision of my own, but rather caused by my mother’s purchase of a Jeep Wrangler.

Yep, a Jeep Wrangler. To be specific, it is a 2014 Rubicon Unlimited model that my mother fell in love with after coming by one afternoon to visit me at work, which resulted in her purchasing it approximately two hours later. I wasn’t expecting her to buy this brick-looking vehicle, but she finally had enough of her brown on brown 2010 Equinox and decided to pull the trigger.

Kinja'd!!!

Now, we all know that a Jeep and a Bentley Mulsanne are two very different vehicles, but this specific Rubicon is actually kind of, “nice.” The original owner must’ve been completely mad as they ordered this Wrangler with the dual roof package, leather seats, navigation, locking axles and disconnecting sway bar (might be standard on the JK Rubicon, I don’t remember), 31" off road tires, along with an aftermarket front soft top that replaces the two hard roof panels in favor of a small sunroof type apparatus. This sunroof is visible in the photo above and is reminiscent of a Miata’s convertible top when it comes to ease of use.

Like any other Jeep, it’s loud, uncomfortable, inefficient, sort of silly, and perfect in every single way.

Even though my mother purchased what I later discovered to be the lowest priced 2014 Wrangler Rubicon with leather and under 100,000 miles in the United States, very much in Hoovie-esque fashion, two sizable car payments was simply too much for her to handle. So, after a few discussions about cost it was decided: I’m going to get my first loan and purchase the Audi, which is something I have wanted to do for years.

Kinja'd!!!

Thankfully, working at the car dealership for a few months has taught me a couple of things about auto finance, and the finance people at the dealership were kind enough to give me advice on how not to go completely broke. Very kind of them. Plus, the agreed purchase price for the Audi was about $3,000 below market, so I would have been an idiot to let a vehicle that meant to much to me get away.

So, no, I really wasn’t forced to buy the Audi but rather I know I needed to or else it would’ve been traded in, sent to auction, bought by some shady buy-here/pay-here dealer, and then sold to some jackwagon who was going to instantly crash it. I couldn’t have let that happen. After all, this is a super rare car with even some of the most hardcore modern VW enthusiasts not knowing about it’s existence.

In the end, I’m happy as the Audi is staying in a good home, my mother finally got her mid-life crisis machine, and best of all I no longer have to drive the Maxima.

Kinja'd!!!

Oh, speaking of the Maxima, uhh, here it is? I’m pretty sure nobody cares but It’s A Car That Still Exists. Recently crossed 243,000 miles and it still runs somehow but I’m looking to offload it. Now that I have a car that I like, I see no reason to keep it around. Plus, money. It’s listed locally for $1,500 but if anybody on Oppo is local to the Raleigh area or wouldn’t mind traveling, I would happily sell it for $800 flat.

Thats awesome. My dad had a silver 3.2 that he bought new in 2006, put 100k on but kept it pristine, and then when I turned 16 in 2013 it became mine to drive when needed but not actually mine. He was gonna buy me an old 90s car and then instead found a pristine 2001 S4 and bought it for himself which is how I got the 3.2 but I wasnt complaining. That car was so much fun and I loved it, then freshman year of college my dad traded it in on my stepmoms Q5 to my horror

buddy of mine recently bought a 2010 A3 with the 2.0T.

while the 2.0T is way easier to tune, something must be said for the 3.2 and the chewbacca growl  :)

I was also kinda forced to buy my A3. Ok, not really b ut I got it for an acceptable price and I pulled the trigger. Wouldn’t want to trade it for anything else but a low mileage- good condition E46.

BUT FOUR DOOR SPORTS CAR. Nissan makes me chuckle with that crap haha. I do like Maximas though, they have always been pretty nice. Although this particular gen was kinda mehh. Definitely a good deal for slightly better than basic transportation to whoever buys it!

Even worse it had the wretched 2010 only 3.0 V6, which was just as slow as the four cylinder and got worse MPG. With that said we never had any issues with it, and now my employers have it up for a good price .

Yeah, it already has a cold air intake and ECU and DSG tunes, which is pretty much all you can do to it without dropping $10K US on a full turbo kit with installation. Fine with me though as 260ish HP, Quattro, and that DSG feels like a perfect combo.

How did I not know about that Audi? I like to think that I know a lot about VWs, but I didn’t know about this or the MK6 GTI Cabrio. Is your car like an Audi version of the R32?

Ugh what a downgrade, but at least you got to spend some good time with the 3.2. There’s not many other cars like it and it’s rarity in itself is super cool, even big VW guys have no idea what this car is. My stepdad got it in 2014 after the local Audi dealer put it on clearance because I guess Audi Elitist Leasers weren’t interested in a then-eight year old hatchback with 92,000 miles, so we basically bought it for two grand under market back then and I bought it from him for two grand under current market last week , and I simply cannot say no to deal.

Hopefully you got to experience a lot of launches in that car.

I can outlaunch most of my friend’s cars (335i, Focus ST, 2011 STi hatch, GTI, etc.) with this tune, so that’s fun.

I like the large hubcaps y’all got over in Europe, but in NA we only got the 2.0T, 3.2, and the 2.0 TDI later down the line. Which engine is in yours?

Sir, I would like to inform you it has a heated steering wheel aka The Life Changer, making it the best car currently on sale in these fine United States. Sure, the rear view mirror fell out two months ago and it makes rather scary noises, but yeah beats walking for sure.

Pretty much, yes. Identical to the Mk.V R32 except it’s not blue and has four doors. Surprisingly, a lot of VW people don’t know about this car, which I suppose makes sense as only about 3,500 3.2 A3's were sold in the U.S compared to the 5,000 R32's sold during the same time frame. When we got the Unitronic tunes done in 2015, the local VW tuner told us he had never worked on one of these and claimed that he had actually forgotten about their existence.

My 8P is in winter mode so it’s got the 16" wheel covers. Which btw look much better than the terrible wheels the p.o. put on. It’s got the 1.6 FSI producing a whooping 115hp. North America missed out on a bunch of engines like the 1.6, 1.6 FSI, 2.0 FSI, 1.4 TFSI, 1.8 TFSI, 2.5 TFSI and 1.9 TDI.

Same engine as in the MkV R32. Supposedly the Golf is sportier to drive.

There’s only two to three other white A3's around here, so if you see anyone that looks like young Wolfman Jack driving far too fast down, say, Optimist (but not in the s-curve, because that’s where I broke my back ), then you know who it is. Is it living at Hendrick?

Drop out, buy the Maxima. I’d recommend a head swap from the later 350Z’s, and boom you’ll be living the dream.

I feel like the only one that would’ve sold here would be the 2.5 TFSI because if us Americans just have to drive small cars, they better be fast. Golf buyers were the ones who really got shafted, I think, as only the 2.5 was the only gas engine option.

Too bad you guys never got this^. In the MkV Golf/ Rabbit the 2.5 indeed was the only regular gas engine besides the 2.0 T FSI in the GTI   and 3.2 FSI   R32.
