There is nothing more depressing than working from a hotel room. So I am having breakfast and procrastinating. I will probably go for a walk before I hit the email. I stumbled across this, after the guy connected with me on LinkedIn. Anyone know about these cars?

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I have written here before about my exit strategy from my present practice. Today is a perfect example of why. I don’t want to dive into a sewer of toxic conflict and intractable problems. I built my business as the guy who could confront any kind of conflict, and I just am not that guy anymore. I want to extract myself from a 50 year ag labor war and do something else, something new. Small town lawyer, sole practitioner, and hustle up whatever small town work I can find.

My wife has pretty much decided that Colorado and Arizona are out, and the Oregon coast is where we should go. We are planning a road trip in spring to check it out. If things go as planned, I can pull it off in 4-5 years. All debts will be paid, I can sell the business, kids will be in college.

If laws weren’t different, I’m always first to suggest moving to Canada. Although that may be a bit of a climate shock.

I mean, trust and estates is a pretty chill practice. Not sure how much different it is to labor but ex girlfriend from 10 years ago was a trust and estates attorney and she basically worked a 9-5 type job. No late hours doing trial prep, I think the only time she got home late was due to the suckage that is NJ Transit.

A ren’t they the folks that make that suv that looks like a huge FJ?  Oregon coast is nice - love the Cannon Beach/Seaside/Astoria area.  It is a bit wetter than California though...

I haven’t heard of the car maker.

The Oregon coast is a lovely area. Tillamook, Lincoln and Cannon Beach are great spots. You would also be close enough to Portland that if you needed big city stuff that it would be impossible. Be mentally prepared for overcast and fog a lot of the year. Property values can be high, but probably won’t be shocking from a California perspective.

For your entertainment, and on the topic of working from hotel rooms:

I had a month-long hospital IT project in the UK so I go t a hotel room near the hospital (in the middle of nowhere) and pack a bunch of nice work clothes. Turns out that for contract requirements I only needed to be in the country and not the actual hospital, so ended up I spending the whole month in the hotel room.
