Hello Oppo

My wife happens to be substitute teaching as a paraprofessional today in a shop class. They happened to be demonstrating how to wax a truck. She messaged me if we should be doing this to our vehicles and I said yes but it takes forever. She said it looks soothing and wants to try it. I said okay and now I need to know what I should get for doing this. I have access to a heated building for doing this but no supplies. These are the vehicles in question.

Kinja'd!!!

They are outside all year round. They do get parked underneath the house at night. We never wash them.

Thank you everyone for any suggestions.

I do spray wax after each wash and hard wax twice per year. I do the hardwax by hand because I don’t have a buffer and it sucks. I use chemical guys products for washing, I also have a few kinds of their spray wax. “ Final D etail” is another spray wax that I really like.

As far as hard wax, I use the expensive stuff from Zymol. I do it in the shade then go back the next day with a bunch of tools that I have adapted to get the dried wax out of hard to reach places.

Another oppo suggested this wax  I’ve never tried it but the reviews are stellar and would definitely be easier than a traditional hard wax. I’m going to get some, and try it on the ranger in the spring.

Good luck. I've never waxed a car other than paying extra for spray wax at the full service car wash or the touch free wash.

Buy a used buffer off of CL. It’s worth the sub $20 cost.

Wax doesnt really take that long. Even a rub on paste wax should really just take a half hour or so to apply and remove. Spray wax is even faster but I think it’s worth the effort for a nice caranuba wax. What really takes FOREVER is to clay bar the whole car (1-2 hours easy) . It is always worth the effort as it truly makes the car clean but it is so painstaking and tiring that it’s hard to motivate myself. Thankfully I park indoors at home and don’t have trees at work so its not as absolutely necessary as other places. We don’t really have a pollen season either which is nice.

Butter wax by Chemical guys. Is the easiest wax I’ve ever used. Takes me about an hour to do on a Fost by hand.

Not including wash.

An easy on and off product I use is the meguiars nxt tech wax.  The paste in a purple tin.  It goes on easy and after it sets a few minutes it buffs right off.  But as others have said, that’s the easy part.  The clay bar and polishing is the tough part.  But you can do the clay with just clean soapy wash water, then do another wash after the clay and then just apply the wax.

First, gather supplies. Assuming you have nothing to start with. Get two 5 gallon buckets, a butt-load of soft microfibre towels, the wax of your choosing, and some of those round wax applicator thingies.

I like Meguir’s Cleaner Wax, it’s liquid and easy to use, and leaves everything looking great.

1) Wash car using plain water and two-bucket method. Two bucket method means you take the towel in the same order, Car / Dirty Bucket / Clean Bucket, and repeat as needed. This keeps you from rubbing dirty water all over the car. Change out towels and water as needed.

2) Apply wax to entire car , using round wax applicator thingy. Use a circular motion, and don’t skimp on the wax.

3) Rub wax off using microfibre towels. Start in the same place you started applying, and go in the same direction. Change out for a clean towel as needed.

4) Don’t forget to take an extra lap or two around the car when you’re done to make sure you didn’t miss any spots.

It shouldn’t take more than 2 hrs start to finish, depending on how big the vehicle is. I do find it very relaxing, especially when you have the right tunes playing through headphones to drown out the outside world.

For a one- coat product, Meguiar’ s c leaner wax (after washing the car) is a pretty good choice . Good results for minimal work at this kind of thing. If you want a better result for more effort, clay baring a neglected finish will do wonders before applying a coat of wax.
