The launch is set for 6.30PM EST today. It’s a Shrunken 5 seat Pilot, 3.5L 280HP V6, 9 speed, Ridgeline’s AWD system (only on the top of the line Elite Trim, standard FWD). Interior is just like a Pilot’s. No pricing or MPG info out yet.
It gives me some Forester vibes
#Rugged
Roof Racks = #Adventure & #Outdoorsy

Not bad, not bad at all.

They are marketing it as Honda’s most Off road- y offering. Should have made AWD standard or at least available in lower trims.

Mmaybe, but keep in mind that you can still by a new 2WD 4runner
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:32 |
|
I dig it. Reminds me of my favourite generation of MDX sans the beak and a little more rugged-looking.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:32 |

I mean, from the video, it can totally CRUSH a very smooth gravel road that 99% of all other passenger cars can easily drive on.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:32 |
|
Still it’s RWD, not a FWD small van with offroad cladding.

SPOILERS IN REPLY!!!11
Jk jk, I like it. Definitely Forester
-ey.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:34 |
|
Is this a Grand Cherokee competitor?
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:35 |
|
irrelevant , the point is that one of the most off-roadiest o ffroad vehicles does not come with 4WD standard on all trims. so the criticism that Honda has a FWD version of an AWD-advertised vehicle seems unfair, unless you wish to openly criticize both.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:35 |

As someone who never needs a third row of seats, I like it. I also love the complete lack of chrome. New cars don't need big shiny pieces all over them.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:37 |
|
Looks like an ugly version of a threesome between Forester, Edge and a CRV.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:39 |
|
Oh no, I’m not giving the 4Runner a free pass. Just that even if it is not 4 WD it is RWD with body on frame, at least it’s not another FWD crossover like a million of them on the market . That is all.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:41 |
|
Looks like it’s trying to be the new New Rav4!?
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:44 |
|
Meh, I was hoping for SH-AWD at least. Is this literally just a shortened Pilot? A Pilot “Sport”, if you will? Holding out for the new Explorer.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:49 |
|
uprigth rear window, large rear 3/4 glass, almost flat belt line . me likely.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:49 |
|
From what they say in the video, system seems to be similar to SH-AWD- 70% to rear and 100% of that left or right.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:51 |
|
So what's the draw over a CR-V then? It's slightly more macho?
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:53 |
|
Nobody is tracking them. For most applications, FWD or RWD makes no difference. In fact FWD might even be better because you get more traction in snow.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:57 |
|
It has SH-AWD. i-vtm4 is just the “truck” terminology for SH-AWD. Same modules.

It doesn’t matter to the millions who are going to line up to buy this end of the day but just that marketing claim irked me a bit.
Most Off-roady Honda model! *
*Only in the super-expensive highest level Elite trim

At first I was all “nuh uh Zoidberg!” and then I looked and had a sad. They killed the 2wd wrangler and it was good.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 13:58 |
|
Its an outback competitor. if that.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:03 |

More space,more power, more #Offroady
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:04 |
|
Oh, good!
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:05 |
|
Can we show normal people trying to park this at a grocery store?
I chuckled a moment ago as I was getting lunch and a truck couldn’t fit in a normal sized spot between my E92 and a Mini. He tried a few times, but realized he could park his truck, but couldn’t open the doors.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:16 |

I like it! Like you said, big Forester vibe going on, especially from the taller greenhouse. Honda would’ve been wise to give it A WD on all trims I think, as that would’ve helped distance it a bit from both the CRV and Pilot.
I wonder if they’ll ugly it up and sell it as an Acura too?
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:20 |
|
Ought to be reasonably sprightly with that much power, relative to some other cars in the
class.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:22 |
|
It’s MOAR... but not too much more... like
if you think the Pilot is too much for you to handle...
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:31 |
|
I’d like it!
But with two turbos.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 14:47 |

I it weird that I actually kinda like it? My wife would never let me buy a Honda new but I kinda like it
![]() 11/27/2018 at 15:01 |
|
It's basically already a previous-gen RDX.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 15:02 |
|
I like it.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 15:05 |
|
I bet you dollars to doughnuts that front end winds up on the Ridgeline refresh instead of the Pilot’s front clip.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 15:08 |
|
If you were comparing FWD and RWD on this platform you’re probably right. However, a RWD solid-rear axle vehicle is much more off road capable than a FWD vehicle.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 15:11 |
|
Really it’s a competitor to that somewhat off-roady marketed Kia thingy they paraded around with fuel cans strapped to it in odd locations . Telluride I think?
![]() 11/27/2018 at 15:19 |
|
I would bet that as well.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 15:19 |
|
I see the similarity
![]() 11/27/2018 at 16:14 |
|
So it’s the Forester v6?
![]() 11/27/2018 at 16:17 |
|
Pretty much, without a CVT thankfully.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 16:37 |
|
so... ultimately it’s better as long as it’s reliable. Also, it looks really good.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 16:45 |

Very nice. Very, very nice. I support them using essentially the same dashboard as the Pilot and Ridgeline. It’s very well laid out and easy to get used to.
It’s a handsome middle child for Honda’s SUV lineup, and should give other 5-seat CUVs a run for their money. It’ll be a success and pleasant to see on the road.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 17:16 |
|
Yeah but the ZF 9 speed isn’t so great either. I was hoping they might fit this with either the 6-speed from the Ridgeline or the new 10-speed.
![]() 11/27/2018 at 17:17 |
|
Yeah, I think the new pilot and ridge line have sh-awd for their systems, but they just don’t call it that.
