Kinja'd!!!

Hopefully the last parts order for the Mazda. Doing some paid photography work this weekend, getting my paycheck, AND doing a refund for the incorrect clutch I was sent so this shouldn’t sting too bad. New spark plugs, intake manifold gaskets, valve cover gaskets, and a majority of the front control arms. Trying to fix: horribly leaking valve covers, roughly an inch of front/rear play in the wheels due to shot bushings, front left upper ball joint is thoroughly munched. While I’m in there, “m ight as well” do the intake gaskets and spark plugs just to get this thing all nice and buttoned up.

It’s a struggle but this is going to be the world’s best-maintained Mazda6 by the time I’m done.

I read the title as “MOPAR PARTS”

I know that’s not what you meant for me to read, but now you must do it:

Control arms ? (screams internally)

Hope you don’t have too much corrosion to contend with.

Is this more or less-reliable than your Jag was ?

That’s good. What happened with the clutch? They sent one for different model?

I have no idea. It was about a 1/4" too large. The box had the right part# on it but the disk had some weird number on it that didn’t look right. TB and pressure plate were correct, however.

That’s a multifaceted question.

Both have needed a major engine-out repair. The mazda has needed a lot more ancillary stuff just to make it run and drive after/in addition to that engine-out repair. But more stuff on the Mazda (cough cough HVAC cough cough) works.

Also from Rockauto?  Similar thing happened to me, got box with correct part # but item inside was stamped differently.

Hey, I just replaced the front control arms on my Volvo.

It was that bad.

I can’t help but chuckle when they offer things like spark gap tools to go with your purchase of spark plugs. Like they’re assuming that this is your first time changing them , and don’t have the proper tools yet.

I’m sorry you had to experience that. Did you have problems getting the o ld ball joints out too?

Ball joints were easy.  Getting the breaker bar on the control arm bolts was hard.

99% of plugs have the gap pre-set anyways. I can’t remember the last time I manually gapped new plugs.

Ah, the opposite problem of me! I ended up having to take the knuckle off the car to get the damned ball joint out. At least it feels all good now.

I’m just amazed you were able to limp that thing back from Texas!

It was hard to hear any of the other issues over the sound of dying throwout and wheel bearings.

Maybe you should just install a really loud stereo!
