A detail supply store opened not long ago that I want to check out.
They heavily promote Chemical Guys. I have never used these products. Any thoughts or recommendations? Anything in general you have used that you really love? I have jumped around among products, as nothing really knocks me out. I want to wash the GTI today, and I will be detailing the Sunchaser for Radwood LA this week.
I haven’t really gotten excited for Radwood yet, even though the location (Petersen) is awesome. I have to go to Reno first for work, which may be why. Any LA Oppos planning on going? Get me excited for this.
Here is a photo of the lovely church where we went to a wedding yesterday. It was nice.

New car smell air freshener is great from them. Max guard wheel wax is also great. I bought my father a bunch of their stuff and he loves it.

They’re good, not the best . I have used their quick detailers, wax and waterless wash. A lways on sale somehwere, but take their marketing with a BIG grain of salt.
I trust Meguiar’s. Can’t go wrong with them.

The only time I ever noticed an appreciable difference between car cleaning products is wh en I decided to try Meguiar’s over Turtle Wax. Been using Meguair’s ever since.
Only thing I’ve ever bought from Chemical G uys was their bucket dolly , and I love it. I think I got it on sale a while back . $40 is a lot more than I’m comfortable spending on friggin’ bucket wheels , but all the other dollies I could find looked flimsy by comparison. This thing will probably last forever.

I dropped nearly $200 on chemical guys stuff when a detail garage opened by me. Their blacklight stuff (soap, polish) for dark colored cars worked great. As did the cherry wet paste wax. Their clay was just clay. Jet seal is awesome. Ive been happy and would buy over the usual auto parts store brands every time.

I’ve just started using their detailing products. I tried the Diablo cleaner just today on the CX-3. Seems OK, but I am not really into wheel cleaners anyway.
I also bought some HYBRID V7- Optical Select-High Gloss Spray Sealant , seems to work fine.
My preferred spray wax is Mother’s Reflections, but they seem to have stopped making it.

I can’t say anything about Chemical Guys but if you want to know about Adam’s, Gyeon, Gtechniq, CarPro, Autobrite, AutoSmart, WoWo, Nanolex, Auto Finesse, 303, 3M, Bilt Hamber and Valet Pro.

It’s very good. Especially on my black car where nothing worked without swirls, and their heavy duty paint salvaging one worked miracles in my truck
Its in the shade, but you can see compared to the door how good the quarter panel is

I bought their black trim restorer when I decided that the heavily faded trim on the 996 needed to be fixed or replaced. Did a good job, saved me a ton over replacing it.

Unless you want to delve into an endless black hole of one product after another which all do the same thing, stay away. Stick to recommendations from myself and Svend. Anything he recommends that we can’t get here in the States, I will have an alternative for.
Brands I stick to:
All three can be had from AutoGeek , but never order anything from them unless they’re running a sale of at least 15% off. The run sales from 15% to no more than 25% off with free shipping above $75. That’s easy to do.
I also like DetailedImage, but they usually charge for shipping, so whatever coupon they have is negated by shipping. BUT, they’re smaller than AutoGeek (Palm Beach Motoring Group), and they have great customer service. And they are super quick, so it’s worth it when I really need something.
I order between the two as sometimes one has something the other doesn’t, or I have to order directly from the manufacturer like Gtechniq when I need 5L quantities.
Now, for specific products.
Glass cleaner: Gtechniq G6
Interior:
General Interior Cleaner: Gtechnic I2 Tri-Clean : This will work on any surface and like any of Gtechniq’s AB products, it is anti-bacterial and anti-microbial.
Carpet/Upholstery Cleaner: Sonax
Carpet and Upholstery Sealant: Gtechniq Smart Fabric
Plastics/vinyl: Sonax Plastic Care
Leather care: Sonax products
The Dash: Gtechniq Matte Dash
Leather Sealant: Gtechniq Leather Guard AB
Sonax Windshield fluid additive
Wheel cleaner: Sonax Full Effect
But one bottle only lasts a few wheel sets , so you may want to invest in the 5L bottle .
Exterior: CarPro EcH20 Waterless wash (I actually foam the car first and then rinse it off before I use this. I never use it dry as it can easily scratch the car and leave micro-marring and other RIDS)
Sealant/wax: CarPro Reload . Modern “ceramic” coatings use SiO2 as the chemical which provides a hard barrier between the clear coat and the elements. Reload has SiO2 in it and by itself creates a durable hydrophobic coating. It also creates a slight antistatic coating so it doesn’t get as dirty. Through my testing, a good coat of Reload can last months, but I use Reload as drying aid so I am constantly topping up the coating so the car always looks amazing and repels crap. Bird crap and other debris can be washed right off.
Shampoo:
Add this to every wash bucket or foam gun to prevent rusting and do other magical things: Ammo Boost
Foam gun shampoo: Gtechniq W4 Citrus wash . I use this as my first step in either rinsing off the car (with DI water) or a regular wash. W7 does a great job (coupled with Reload) to just eat all the road grime and it rinses right off with a pressure washer.
Wash bucket shampoo: Gtechniq GWash . Holy mother of god the lubricity of this soap is INSANE! It also is highly concentrated so it only takes a few ounces in a five-gallon bucket.
Wheel shampoo: Ammo Brute Soap . I actually use this in another foamer and can just rinse my wheels off. It’s expensive but worth it.
Foam cannon: I have tried many foam cannons and I have actually found Chemical Guy’s to be the nicest. It creates the thickest foam and I like the new bottom.
Pressure washer: This one is a good price, is compact and offers good pressure.
I’m sure I’m missing many things. And while I started by saying don’t buy Chemical Guys, that doesn’t mean all of their products are crap. But I have found better ones. But because I’m dumb and buy things in bulk on sale, I now have WAY too many old Chemical Guys gallon products in my garage, so I think you can benefit from my idiocy and I can send you back home after Radwood with a trunk full of detailing products.

Any wheel wax that you would recommend? I like waxing my winter steelies and summer rims to keep the crap off as much as I can.

I didn’t notice a huge difference on my car. But I washed my sisters,
sister:”thanks for doing this”
me:no problem, I was looking for the dirtiest car to see how this works
her: not sure if I should be than kful or insulted.
I think the diablo is more for touch up. for super dirty, https://www.chemicalguys.com/DeCon_Pro_Iron_Remover_16_oz_p/spi21516.htm this stuff seemed to cut through built up brake sudt well.

I used to use their first version of that. It still looks the same. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t last. I use Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour now. It’s based off their SiO2 coatings, just modified for wheels to withstand the temperature from the brakes. It works wonders. By using C5 is never have to scrub my wheels, I just use Sonax Full Effect and Ammo Brute soap in foam form and rinse the wheels clean.

Underwhelming. They opened a Detail Garage near me in spring/summer, and I
bought a variety of things
.
Some stuff is nice (but stupidly pricey), and
nothing is junk per se that I’ve encountered. Generally
no better than Turtle Wax, Meguiar’
s, Mother’s, etc., as far as I’ve found. Price-wise I preferred
them to AmmoNYC’s offerings, though admittedly I have very limited experience with them.

This works well when there are bigger gaps and you need to do an initial deep cleaning.
But for general cleaning, a good boars hair brush like this works well.
