My mom has a 2016 BMW 330i xDrive and a 2016 CRV, both fully loaded. She loves the power of the BMW and the utility of the Honda, but hates the running cost of the BMW (she hits potholes all the time and low profile tires means expensive flats. She also had to have the driver’s seat replaced when a shoe got stuck beneath it and messed up some module). She also hates the slowness of the CRV and its chunkiness. On average, she drives between 500 and 1000 miles per week.
What she needs: something that can carry herself plus three passengers with comfort, enough power to keep up with aggressive traffic, utility to move large items such as bikes, moving boxes, and small furniture.
What she wants: a luxury badge due to her line of work, a well-appointed interior, ability to tow, low maintenance, all wheel drive, tires with sidewall so she can hit potholes.
What she doesn’t like: lumpy CRV-style crossovers, high maintenance vehicles, trucks, BOF SUVs, manual transmissions).
Bonus: she will not drive a Subaru or anything used. She might go for CPO, though. She also wants to stay with owning two cars for convenience’s sake- one sporty vehicle and one utility vehicle is her preferred combination.
Things that I’ve suggested: a pairing of an RC350 with a 4runner (she has yet to drive either, and dislikes the truck-esque nature of the 4runner), an Accord with the 2.0t to cover all vehicular needs, Buick Regal TourX (her parents used to have a 90s Buick so any post-bailout GM vehicle is obviously right out).
Any thoughts? Nearly ideal solution for your time.

Sounds like the right time for a Volvo wagon

What you’re describing is an RX350. Ugly, but it will do all those things.
Alternatively a W212 E350 wagon, preferably without the sport package. Very reliable, car like, and doesn’t have run flats.

Or a Macan, although I’m pretty sure the Porsche doesn’t meet the non-high maintenance criteria

CPO BMW X3 or X5 or the equivalent Mercedes GLC/GLE and audis Q3/Q5 for utility? How abou a Volvo Xc60?The new Acura RDX with the 2.0T and better infotainment is also a solid choice.
And for the sporty car how about a used GolfR or S3 or a 2 series? A used G37X is reliable cheap and fast as well. Coupe +manual+sport is the most sportiest. Or if she wants a newer one the Q60 looks even better. An Audi A5 coupe or Sportback is another solid choice. Newer ones have been quite reliable. A Lexus RC350 is aother reliable sporty coupe. If she absolutley wants AWD then cpo Is350 AWD

What about a Volvo XC60 or XC90? Would a Lexus GX be a better fit for her than the 4-runner? To me it’s hideous, but I see enough that some must like them.
As a dark horse suggestion maybe a Buick Regal Tourx?

Yes, the RX is one of those “all things to all people” cars and has been that way from the start. I feel like they’re way too small inside for their footprint, but for passenger duty they’re great.

Yeah - my wife has one. You’re totally right about it being a smaller inside than you would think, and personally I hate the driving dynamics, but my wife absolutely loves the thing - dead reliable, quite luxurious, and comfy for passengers.

I was going to suggest a TourX, but since she won’t ... What about a CX-9? They’re really nice, if it handles as nice as a CX-5, it's shockingly good, plus they've got that turbo power.

Smaller diameter BMW wheels with larger sidewall tires for the same rolling diameter?

What your mom is describing is a Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited or 5.7 Hemi. Not quite an SRT8 or Trackhawk.
Unfortunately, they don’t make a 5.7 Hemi or a 5.9 Limited any more. So fuck Jeep.
That said... seriously, make your mom look at a new GMC Canyon. Not Acadia, not Terrain, Canyon. The baby pickup. Nicely appointed with the Denali package, 4WD, sidewalls, just plain usable, and with the 3.6 it actually tows pretty decently.

Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited or Overland rides that fine line of utility, refinement, badge recognition, and performance

Porsche Macan w/ base 18" wheels.
Will drive a bazillion times better than the equivalent Lexus / Acura / Infiniti while also having better brand presence.
Maintenance intervals are every 10k miles, according to my math they should be $400 / $800.
Or a Raptor. About the same costs, much better at potholes but will use more fuel and be more difficult to park. Plus she can unleash her inner bro by adding light bars.

Thought about it, but it looked like she would need to downsize brakes for that to work.

We saw a Macan in a parking lot. She called it "a waste of steel."

Why not just get a road hazard warranty on the tires if she really is blowing through them? Pretty much every modern luxury car and crossover is going to have low profile tires, so swapping out the bimmer because of the tires is only going to make sense if you get a truck of some sort.
