I was attempting to get the Jetta inspected today, so naturally this happened.
It threw the code a few days ago, P1296 for a vague cooling system issue. I replaced the coolant temp sensor this morning, cleared the codes, and didn’t drive it enough for the I/M monitors to reset before the code came back on. So now I have to replace the thermostat, which isn’t fun on this car.
The car is also still running poorly from 1500-2500 rpm under boost when warm, I’m hoping the thermostat helps because it runs great when it’s cold. If not, coils/plugs will be the next thing on order.

I hate to admit it, but I do kinda miss that weird gauge cluster color that my friends trash Jetta had. Really compliments the CEL well.
The GTO has been throwing codes whenever it gets below 40 degrees which is thankfully rare here in Texas. Currently 70 something so the light is off. Who wants to wager the temp stays the same so I can get it inspected next week...? Yeah, me neither.

I always loved the design of those gauges, though.

Might be a water pump :/ my 335i would run good, then once it started warming up would be very low on boost until it would eventually get nearly up to temp and the engine light would come on.

It’s such a weird dash color, when I first turned on the headlights I thought somebody must have changed the bulbs. Nah though, that’s what they were doing. VW is so weird.

Interesting, man do I hope that’s not it...if I have to do the water pump I’m going to do the timing belt while I’m in there.

The only reason I still have my Passat is V6. The turbos just had too many problems...and today I flushed my heater core (which is now an annual service if I want heat) and realize both heater core nipples were cracked and falling apart.
Fingers crossed, one more year...

It really is. But, that’s the charm. Like the flower vase attachment for the dash on the “new beetle.”

Don’t worry, my Lancer’s with it in the Axis of Pain. Still hasn’t passed inspection thanks to a code. I got chewed out by my mom for driving a car that keeps throwing a code every time I have a chance to take it to get inspected, too, ugh. I haven’t had the time or money to fix the stupid thing, which I’m fairly certain is actually a bad cat. Sometimes the light goes off, but it never does it when I’m around an inspection spot. I’m so mad.
