Safe now after a wash in its short term new home. After manuevering around a camper, two drilling rigs, and a container.
Receiving a wash.
Leaving-dirt-road dolly check.

How solid is the steel? The aluminum looks like it held up well. Engine seized? :O

Some chassis rot, we're probably going to buy a new one. Bad footwells on the firewall and a little rot in one doorpost. I was sure the engine would be seized, but i was able to turn it a few degrees when I tried the crank on it.

That is beautiful!

Neat. Looking forward to seeing updates.

This makes eight of these in the near family. Three running, one almost running, a couple in limbo and two currently torn down to chassis and rolling chassis. It may be a sickness.
The one I don’t remember anything about is the one my cousin has in Alaska. His other two are this one (109" pickup, gas, one ton) and an 88" pickup we did a full resto on. Then there’s mine (an 88" station wagon) and a passenger package full top 88" that belongs to one of my brothers for the ones that run, a 109" pickup (diesel) belonging to my dad as an almost-run, a 109" five door as a rolling chassis pending Mercedes diesel , and another 88" pickup currently as a pile of parts.
All of them are series ii or iia, and I think all with the possible exception of the Alaska one are with the pre-69 radiator mount headlights.

The usual stuff then!

Quite so! Nothing I haven’t seen before and quite a bit of it not as bad as many. Actually the rot present is more like a typical Yorkshire farmer’s example than several rust belt examples we’ve had.
The intake hose stayed intact, so I suspect the Solex should be easy to get right and the engine may require only minimum attention.

Well that doesn’t look half bad! Is the roof caved in a bit at the center?

Roof has been bonked, yes. We have another one that’s not this bonked with sides and back that are worse off, so we’ll probably make one semi-unbonked roof, and one straightened bonkroof with damaged sides. It will be the loaner pickup cab. The cab of shame.
Actually, I ought to get the measurements of the rarely seen pickup cab safari top (it exists!) and make a hat for the semibonk to hide the crease and be cool in more than one sense of the word. I think our buddy in the area has one hidden away.

It looks like a pretty symmetrical bonk. I like the Bonkroof Dentside plan, especially with a hat!

That is figgin awesome, can’t believe I missed this. You going to keep the engine or do a swap? I think I’ve pretty much decided on a NP435 gear box mated to a 350 in mine. Putting Salisburys in would be just to heavy for that 3MB diesel.
Congrats!

I think the idea with this one is to stay with stock drivetrain... but possibly drop a Turner 8:1 rebuild in. Might look around for a t-case ratio kit, who knows. Not that this is a “throw money at it until it’s awesome” build exactly, but since it needs a new frame (realistically - rot in the main rails ahead of the rear axle), it will get to be fairly mechanically good
. My cousin is making good bones right now as an airplane broker and is looking very much at it as
stock+, talking about parabolic springs...

Gotcha, well I have a new crank and piston heads/rings for a 3MB that I’m probably not going to use. I’ll mention the block is also
good but
probably easier to source one closer to you if you guys don’t go the Turner route.

The engine in this one seems to not be wholly frozen, and we have at least one, two I think 2.25 gas spares and three diesel spares. One of which diesels was freshly rebuilt by my grandfather not too long before he was hit (in a II 88), so around 1983-84. Also, I suspect our compadre Sean has a couple of blocks lying around.
tl;dr: WE OKAY, SON

GUY WHO HAS EIGHT SERIES IN FAMILY FOUND TO HAVE SOME SPARES: FRIENDS, NEIGHBORHOOD, LOCAL AUTHORITIES DUMBFOUNDED
If those were brand new gas pistons
and crank I’d be tempted to find an excuse to come get them, but since we have a low-miles diesel, a rebuilt spare, and another spare that’s probably just in need of rings... Clearly I need another flimsy excuse or none to come up there.
