I’m trying to figure out the market for this. As best I can tell, this is another stab at the 757 replacement market, slotted in the lineup above all versions of the A321 but below the A330-800, more of a competitor to the as yet unannounced 797. Am I reading this correctly? As Boeing already found out, that seems like a bit of a niche market, and it would probably be difficult to recoup the development costs.

A320 replacement?

I mean that segment will be heavily disputed in the near future. The A220-300 has the capacity to take away A319/737 Max buyers. The 737 Max, despite the age of the platform, sells bettet than Airbus hoped. And Comac and Irkut, despite not having the know-how, money, size, business synergies and expertise of Airbus and Boeing are rather ambitious and backed by totalitarian governments and airplane hungry markets.
