Doing a mountainside rescue this morning. Or most of one, aren’t actually picking her up yet. Getting her out of the hole.
Sorry, oppo: not rescuing the Sunbeam today.
Manuevering past the broken grader...
And, out.

The frame is a bit frakked. Haven’t done an autopsy to know if it’s rebuildable or if it needs whole replacement with a fresh India-made hot-dip frame.
The firewall, which is bad to rust, may only need floorboards; I've seen worse.
It was running when put there... 20+ years ago.

Some assembly is required. Okay, but seriously, it’ll need a breakdown as far as the frame at least, but whether it’ll be as fancy as my cousin’s other one, TBD.
He wanted a truck, and he got one - this one has actually been my dad's white whale for a long time, but it was my cousin that finally got it.

Yeah, I’d imagine the steel frame is probably swiss cheese after sinking into the ground for many years.
A nicely patinated Rover is way more fun than a bright shiny one. One of those vehicles where one that has a story to tell is better than one that’s been babied since it rolled off the line.
Too bad your Dad wasn’t able to grab it, but it’s better that it goes somewhere than continues to sit. And hopefully you’ll get to borrow it from time to time.

I helped/oversaw my cousin’s rebuild, so I will be on board with this one. Can’t really leave the body as-is due to rust damage on the steel parts, but we may be able to freshen those up and reassemble with the aluminum panels as-is.

Yeah there will definitely be a ton of rot removal involved. The aluminum can hide a lot of trouble, but at least most of the steel is flat or simple bends.

This one has the huge advantage of woods rot only, not salt rot. When these have been in the salt the galvanic corrosion can eat the fender edges and bed underside something fierce.

Stock, very possibly. With patina exactly as you see it, likely not, as it has structural frame rust that must be addressed and footwell holes. Once that's fixed, though - might leave the pieces that way for a while.

Oh man, this is a perfect way to spend a morning! Going to be added to your fleet or family? Is it fairly intact?

Broader family fleet. The same cousin who has a bronze green 88 picked up this 109.
Thereby making seven in the near family, five in the direct family.
It’s got some frame rust and whatnot, so it’ll need some degree of teardown. Rear bed is nearly per fect, but left front fender has a bent bumper boo-boo and the right front fender has a swelled spot (frozen water + leaves?) next to where the end of the footwell is.
Oh, and there’s a branch d ent in the roof.
BaconSandwich is tasty.

Frame has some issues, may be rebuildable (I’ve done it before), or we may spend like $4000 to buy a fresh one (done that too). The frames are like some triumphs and others in being a welded box of thin sheet and not a section of pressed channel. Which means you can make them cheap anywhere welding is cheap... so they do. In India, mostly.
All the tricky or hard to make parts (spring perches, etc.) are available to weld on and replace, so rebuild is sometimes a good idea.
The firewall and rad supports are steel, as are various stays, pieces of trim, and reinforcing ribs. I’ve worked on them all. Rest is birmabright, a high copper aluminum alloy developed for aircraft.
