We did the war poets in school when I was 14-15 and at 39 I still quite vividly remember the words of Wilfred Owen and Seigfrid Sassoon.
Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori
Worth watching The Wipers Times, a news paper some did when they came across a newspaper printing press in a bombed building in Ypres. It’s funny but also conveys the awful nature of what’s happening and how many of them keep their spirits up and/or entertained while such, well, what can only be described as hell is going on around them.
It was supposed to be the war to end all wars.
Unfortunately, as we look back, it wasn’t even the only world war.
Nobody wins in war, not even the Victor's. Yet every day there is at least several going on around the world.
