I was doing SO well. Solid month without looking at cars. And now... Now I’ve got a tab for “manual Mercedes”, a tab for “Cayman”, a tab for “2002 Miata” a tab for “Grom”, a tab for “2004 Discovery” and a tab for “imported”.

I think both are overpriced a little. Funny, I just saw that wagon yesterday - it is indeed rare as a grey market item, but looks like it needs some elbow grease stat. The 115 has a nice list of work done, and is cheaper, but is less desirable. They were actually sold through MY 1976, I believe. As with most old MBs, a PPI would be a great idea, and then knock a good 20%+ off the price of each.
Y ou really need to drive a 240D before getting too excited . They are slow, as in the fintail will walk away from it slow. They will cruise all day at the speed limit no problem, but take their sweet time getting there. At least these are manuals, a 240D automatic might be slow enough to be considered unsafe(or at least a road rage machine) in some areas.

Now we are going to be even worse. Those diesel land barges you are looking at are awesome. Super slow when stock but they will last forever and the smooth ride makes them a road trip beast. When motivated people can do some crazy things with them. I remember coming across one example that was also covered by the front page a while ago.

I think you’d have to be either a masochist or a sociopath to drive a 240D in an urban area.
Preferably both.

You could just cut your losses with that Volvo and get hop to the next project. IT’S NOT TOO LATE

You’re going to be asking for it on on-ramps.
The ability to let off a smokescreen may appeal to some, too.

If the ramp is even a little uphill, you gonna die.
Heck, even downhill you probably will.

Automatic 240D is the second slowest car I’ve ever driven. First place goes to VW Rabbit Diesel.
Full of the sound of the Gran Fury, signifying nothing.

I used to work at a VW dealer and the joy of driving a Vanagon Westfalia Di esel. A Rabbit Diesel was a rocket ship by comparison...

Ca n confirm, I borrowed my grandpa’s manual 1972 240d wayyy back in the day. I t was slower than my first car - a 1981 Jetta Diesel 5 speed. But solid as a rock. That old 240d is still alive on the San Juan peninsula as far as I know.

The first step is admitting you have a problem not blaming everyone else

Depending on the health of the car, the uphill ramp might set you going downhill.

I’ve only driven one in a parking area.
I bet a 190/200D automatic fintail would be even more fun. I think old diesel automatic Volvos were as bad as the Rabbits, too.

Yep, they will run forever, and can run for long periods at highway (right lane) speeds - just gotta learn to not be in a hurry.

Agreed. One nice thing about Seattle is I have multiple super-knowledgable MB fanatics nearby to scope things out if I ever get serious!

My dream is still a yellow Sunburst NA, in mint condition.... But an NB2 (preferably 02) in good condition or even a Mazdaspeed.... That would be a close second.
I want a stock (ish, lol) Miata and to continue building my current one

I love how the Mazdaspeed looks but the way they are geared and how tiny the turbo is makes it so meh. There's always the sunburst yellow NB as well! If I can find a pretty clean NB2 that would be nice. I've never spent more than a couple hours around an NA though, it could be fun to have flippy lights.
