I’m on a euro GT car kick again. Look at this goddamn XJS. It is literally what I describe every time I think about my ideal Jag. Straight 6, the 4 speed with overdrive, outboard rear brakes, OEM Ford electronics, rustproofing, 3rd-gen XJ-S in BRITISH. RACING. FUCKING. GREEN.
my DICK.

RELAX, DON’T DO IT

Do it! I didn’t know they made those in the 6 cyl., surprised it’s the 4.0 not the 4.2 like my XJ6 .
FWIW In Jay Leno’s review of his XK-120 he says the 4.0 was the best sounding of the XK motors.

With your current luck, it would probably explode the moment you started it up.
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:20 |

Is the 4.0 an XK motor? Pretty sure it’s an AJ I6

I was looking at a jag this morning too. https://porthuron.craigslist.org/cto/d/jaguar/6754092478.html
If it’s still up in a few months I might have to lowball the guy

Man that’s cheap.
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:22 |

I was going to say you should just get some cheap econobox with an auto, but given your luck that would also implode.

I can negotiate the lack of V12 issue as V12s are so fiddly, but what makes this not the perfect one in my eyes is muh buttresses.
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:25 |

That’s beautiful. Buy it now!

how do I apply for a loan through the bank of Huzer?
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:28 |

What about the buttresses?
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:28 |

I got a cheap econo-sedan with a manual and it has imploded three times and I haven’t even put tags on the fucker yet.

I mean like Versa cheap with an auto that where there is no more fuckery with the clutch. However, given your recent luck, the torque converter would go out.
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:33 |

Any cheap shitbox modern enough to not be a pile of fuck is too expensive to insure.
Also, Versa? I haven’t ever driven one of those that wasn’t falling to absolute pieces before 80k.

On the late models, the window design/etc. visually diminishes them. So much so I used to think the design had actually changed.
They stand out/pop a bit more on older models.
I also prefer the older rear lights.

It’s probably rusted to hell
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:51 |

Very likely. Jaguar much like Nissan didn’t believe in rustproofing until 1992 or so

pardon me sir, but you coulda had a mutha fuckin V12
![]() 11/21/2018 at 09:59 |

yeah but then you are in a competition with DSMs for least reliable car
![]() 11/21/2018 at 10:48 |

How much do you pay for insurance? I’m just curious at this point.
![]() 11/21/2018 at 11:12 |

The only thing that goes wrong with those is the valve cover gaskets and power steering pump. Rest is solid, well, water leaks into the passenger foot well where the ecm sits . And the occasional heater core/evaporator failure. And the integrated electronics. Lucas still had fingers in the pudding at this point. Didn’t go full Ford until the S-type.
I’ve always wanted to put the s upercharged 6 from the XJR-6 into one. Grab the manual from a DB7 and have a blast.

The 6.0 V12 was a tank. Reliability was on par with the 6 cylinder cars. 5.3 ehhhh not so much.

and the quad headlights. older cars were glorious. was never a fan of the trapezoidal euro lights.

Do it. Do it. Do it. I doubt all it needs is a fuel pump though...

I got 4 damn cars already. I can’t buy another at the moment

I was paying $170/mo for full coverage on the ‘02 Miata and ‘02 IS300. But that was before my wife put two at-fault total losses on my insurance so expect that number to triple. I am stuck with shitboxes for the next three years because I won’t be able to have full coverage on anything thus can’t finance or have adequate insurance on anything nice.
Even before the totals I quoted a Mitsubishi... mirage? The super cheap thing. As well as a Chevy Spark. Was quoted anywhere from $200/mo to $300/mo just for the most dirt cheap new/CPO car I could find. Even a 4 year old base Fiesta would have been about $160/mo on its own.

6.0 was alright but didn’t they still drop valve seats?

I never warmed to the late taillights, but man this is a slick looking car.

I’m a fan of the factory smoked look. And full width. Hnnng.

In the years I worked on them and t he 96 X J 12 I had for years, I never came across one that did. In my experience it was isolated to the 5.3, and oh lordy did I fix bunches of those . Someone else may have had a d ifferent ex perience, just wasn’t something I ran into .
![]() 11/21/2018 at 19:30 |

That’s good to know. I knew the 5.3 had an awful time with that.

Have you thought about taking your wife off your insurance plan and her just getting her own ? We are considering removing... ME... from my plan because my wife has a spectacular record and I... don't.

I don't know, I thought you had a good thing going with two largely reliable vehicles for a bit there: Miata (yes, I know you had to work on that at the start) and fancy Toyota. You've had some god-awful luck, but don't let that deter you from a competent fleet.

Insurance in Kansas doesn’t work that way. It’s household-based. Insurance companies assume that if you live together there’s a chance they’ll drive your shit so they have to be on your insurance or it’s fraud. Or something.
![]() 11/21/2018 at 21:38 |

I agree. It's like a lazy facelift that made it uglier. Tail lights remind of any mid-70s Ford sedan.

That's wild. I've already talked with my agent about changing it up and she said it was no issue. Although she's also a friend so maybe I'm getting more help than normal...

Well you have me there, I’m not really an expert; I thought all the inline 6 cyl motors were called XK
