That first one is neat

I actually quite like the first one. Those weird square pendants can die in a fire with the spikey thing, and I only like the muti-circle slightly more.

I mean, FFS, if you are going to have a SQUARE pendant you should at LEAST take the time to make sure they either hang at the same angle or in a smooth arc with the arrangement. It makes my skin crawl.

And their stupid sparkly shades are ugly too.

Hope it’s an open floor plan to reduce injuries if you’re gonna go around looking up all the time.

Why does the first one have a built in turbo?

Some of those remind me of the original fixtures I saw in an untouched 70s contemporary (Mithun design, I think) house where an estate sale was held a couple years ago:

Kinja'd!!!

This is in Newport Shores.  House is now slated for the wrecking ball, no doubt nothing will be saved.

I like them all but the christmas ornament. Don’t think I’d ever actually buy any though.

Pretty sure I’ve seen that first one at IKEA

1st thought: Who’s trademarks are they trying to skirt: Audi or the Olympics?

2nd thought: The hell is up with the ducting on that vent hood?

Someone went a little crazy at IKEA.

I actually like all of these except the spiky one, particularly  the first two. I’d only choose #2 and maybe #4 for my own house, though. #1 is cool, but would be a royal pain to keep clean.

Good point. The fact they’re not properly aligned would bug me, but if they were fixed I’d be pretty happy with #2. I think it’s the most tasteful of the lot aside from #4.

When I bought my house, it had a newly-installed fixture a lot like that top one over the dining room table, except a bit more “brain coral” looking. It was neat, but it was an absolute bitch to dust . We replaced it last year with something much simpler and never looked back.

I was thinking the same thing with the hood vent. What gives?

1) L ooks great when lit , but like a wad of toilet paper when unlit .

2) Would be fantastic if everything lined up right, but is infuriating as is.

3) Is awesome. Maybe not in bronze, though.

4) Asymmetrical and geometric are my jam. Give me more, please.

Dishonorable mention: I hope there’s an uninstalled cover waiting to hide the hideous exhaust ducts above that hood.

I bet there’s a square cover with a matched finish that goes above the hood. The rest of the house appears unfinished, so it seems reasonable to assume the kitchen is as well.

Looking for suggestions: hall entryway, 8’ ceiling, currently has an ugly mini-chandelier. Modern or retro, dealer’s choice.

That’s a shame. I like the 70s aesthetic when pulled off well.

Retro will be back in style someday; modern is doomed to be soon out of style... But someday retro!

So do I. I also like the use of unpainted wood, which this house has/had in spades. One can see by looking out the window why it has been reduced to land value only (nice capsela style light fixture, too) :

Kinja'd!!!

The sites which keep old listing photos might be the only memories of some of these time warp houses. My only objection is the period fixation with carpet :

Sold for 4.3 MM in 2016, listed at 5.5MM now, with free removal of the house, no doubt to be replaced by the styles in vogue here now - faux farmhouse, faux chateau, faux Tuscan, faux craftsman, mcmodern.
