Get on my level. 1986 735i auto, true dignitary spec.
I know it’s pretty lame to introduce my new daily after Patrick did, but I’ve been too busy building a Mustang with a V12 to talk about easy things like daily-ing 30-year old German luxury sedans.

Weak.
Try dailying a 53 yo American yacht:
By far one of the best daily drivers I’ve ever owned.

I bought a corvair as my daily a few years ago and my parents werent happy but it was the best summer daily Ive ever had. It may be more dangerous in a crash but I also reach much less dangerous speeds than I do now in my relatively much more modern BMWs

Too busy to give details and a build to follow obviously......

I know I wasn’t “as safe” in that car, but I was a more attentive/safer driver in it, so it’s probably a wash.
That being said, it still weighed 4250 lbs, so I had more mass than a lot of vehicles on the road.

I did too!

I haven’t posted too many updates because I don’t go on here too often, and I’m pretty bad at promoting myself! I will write an update soon, and of course it will all be shown in the next episode of Reidus and Cletus.

Come back to us. We miss gratuitous V12 images.

If every car has a story, this one’s begins with, “Ah, back in the day when I worked at the embassy...”

Just busting your balls. Look forward to seeing the build progress!

It was actually pretty easy to park and maneuvre , no heater in -20 sucks though.

Soooooon. It’s taken 2 1/2 years just to put the engine in the damn thing. Hopefully not another 2 1/2 to make it run.

Shit, you’re right

Sounds like you need more hammers*
*note this is how the yokels that owned my CJ put the V8 in it . 5/10 would recommend.

I dailied a ‘63 Corvair...in Phoenix...during summer. Ended up swapping it out for a ‘66 GMC longbed that also didn’t have AC. I sweated a lot that summer.

I missed that you sold the Big Six. How bad was the fuel economy? I thought it was a pretty neat car for a daily. I even shopped CL for old straight six Fords after watching that episode!

Y’know what, it was not a bad daily . It COULD get almost 20 mpg if you only highway drove it, when I was delivering pizza in it only 10 was possible, though. It was surprisingly easy to park due to the visibility, and the fact that you could see at 4 corners. I sold it because I could not for the life of me figure out how to fix the heater, probably a by-product of the engine swap, which sucks in -20. Still drove the damn thing to Quebec city in March, though! It was just a little too agricultural for me, I needed some creature comforts for the Canadian climate, such as good weather sealing and a defroster, so I replaced it with the 7.

A drafty car with no heat would be a total deal killer in Canada, and despite being a neat old car I imagine the novelty of it would wear off after a while since it doesn’t have good driving dynamics, it’s not fast, it lacks creature comforts and sucks down gas in city driving.
Will the 7 be featured in a future episode?!

Not sure how the Ford straight 6 was, but my old Buick with a 425 BB could pull low 20s in mixed driving if you drove it politely.
However if you dropped it down and let the secondaries open you could literally watch the gas gauge drop.

Mine was easy to drive and maneuver as well. Being able to see every corner of the car from the driver’s seat goes a long way in making something easy to drive.

Mine didn’t have A/C, nor do any of my dailies. They all have windows and in reality are only bad in traffic when it’s 90*+

My dad and I restored a ‘64 Wildcat convertible with a 401 Nailhead. It was seldom driven, but would get about 14 MPG. If I had more money I 10/10 would have bought that car from him even if it got 2 MPG. It was white with a white top over light blue vinyl with Buick Rally wheels... So gorgeous.
![]() 11/20/2018 at 16:12 |

That sounds like a gorgeous car.
I would still have mine had our truck not needed a bunch of work right when I got it done. Ended up having to sell it to fix the truck.

Sad! I had an ‘86 CJ7 I sold to finance repairs on my Cherokee... How dumb was I?!

Probably not as dumb as selling a 65 Electra 225 to repair a Ford 6.0 PS......

Tssss how about dailying a rotary prototype engine? ie: the very first turbocharged rotary only sold in Japan because Mazda was too worried to export it? :D
