Here are my thoughts: while we don’t have real winters here anymore, we get plenty of black ice and frozen nights in my area. I’ve had countless pucker-moments in the Taco and longboi over the years. The three vehicles I drive are all RWD. So I’m thinking about some semi-unnecessary expensive to make the Paseo more winter worthy.

Apparently the stock steelie from a RAV4 has the same bolt pattern. I could pick up a set of those and slap some winter tires on those. I am aware that this is not a cure-all, but I do like my car, and I don’t like anxiety, and Jake’s crashed Paseo post hit me right in the feels. It’s not uncommon of this area to get one really brief SNOWMAGGEDON that causes every mook on the road to spin out.

What say thee, Oppo?

My experience driving during winter in a region where the people don’t know how to drive in winter is this: d on’t bother. Yo ur snow tires won’t save you from the actions of the idiots around you. The one exception might be that one day when you actually get accumulation, and the city doesn’t get it cleaned off before you have to get somewhere. Even then, I still go everywhere in all-seasons. I just be more careful and keep to the main streets (and off the highways).

But then again, hard to put a price on your peace of mind.

Meh not worth the money IMO. Just don’t go anywhere if the roads are slick or take the FWD Vibe.

Same bolt pattern, but same offset, too?

A winter tire set is a good idea, and can last for years if used judiciously.

If we're comparing circumstances, the Vibe is her car. I basically never drive it unless we're together.

I vote do it. Even if your winters aren't serious, your peace of mind is worth it.

Pretty much clockwork in your state to get the YouTube winter crash vids.. I would do the tires.

We run Blizzaks on the subie  and the Taco. Some would say it’s overkill but I like not worrying about road conditions.

I ran G eneral arctic altimax last year and they didn't let me down . They’re cheap, and great in snow and ice. Even in the S kykomish mountain area, I never once got stuck due to traction, just ride height. And with our 3 inch snow accumulation at best, that shouldn’t ever be an issue around here.

I say do it, because driving in the snow with a RWD vehicle on snow tires is so much freaking fun!

I run winters even just for the rubber compound. Also I go to the island somewhat often and I’m more likely to go through snow there than I am at home.

Last year I went “M eh, I have AWD, and it hardly snows here anyways, let’s see how the all-seasons do” And then we got snow for longer than usual, and that was no fun at all with the all-seasons. So my winters are already on, even though there’s no chance of snow yet

I’m always an advocate of winter tires if it’s cold enough and snow and ice are  a likelihood. It’ll also help your other tires last longer, since you won’t be using them.

Snow tires won’t cure everything, but it is better than injured occupants and a totaled Toyota . That’s why I bought some for my Corolla, even though snow is relatively rare here in northern Germany.
