flashy picture to catch your attention.
I got most of the 350 dissembled, 7 of the 8 pistons are out and a few lifters are lightly stuck in the block but other than that everything went smoothly. I was even able to remove the harmonic balancer with a breaker bar. The bearings seem ok-ish, this engine was a “20 thousand mile” engine when i bought it, the caveat being that it was all farm miles. So basically the oil’s never been changed or any maintenance done to it. Hopefully tomorrow I can get the last piston out and hone the cylinders to get the surface rust out. Then I guess it’s new rotating assembly time, I’m shooting for about 10-10.5:1 compression and 300 at the wheels which should be very easy to accomplish.

What sort of bottom end are you doing?
My original plan with
t
he 350 I bought for the chevelle was ball hone, rings, bearings, and spend the money on the top end. When I tore it down I found out it had been ‘rebuilt’ before, needed bored, and the rods were mis-matched. It’s now cascaded into it needing basically everything, which had really screwed up my budgeting for it. I’m currently trying to decide if I want to go the extra $400 for a forged crank and better rods.

I haven’t really decided yet, I’ll either
go with an entire forged bottom end or just forged rods and pistons and leaving the cast crank

Yeah I’m going forged pistons either way, mostly hung up on if I can spend the extra to make it last longer when maybe it would be fine without it.
