That does seem a bit ridiculous, but I’d probably find 5C a shock after the temperatures I’m sure you experienced this summer. I know around here it’s struggling to get above freezing and I’m pretty miserable.

I just drove my kids to school in 9 degree weather in an open top Jeep. I feel like our weather is even more mild than MXC, but there’s no way they’d ever cancel school year because of air temps. Had a few snow days when I lived in Tucson despite there not being much snow, but I think it was because theu didn’t want to have inexperienced bus drivers getting into wrecks.

Celsius. 9F in Phoenix would be very concerning. The lowest temperature ever recorded here was 17F in 1950. Phoenix is the hottest city in the US, so I wouldn’t say we’re too experienced w ith cold weather either. However, I don’t doubt that MXC public schools care more about student welfare than Arizona public schools.

I grew up in Minnesota. We never had a snow day, even when it snowed multiple feet . We did have school cancelled once because the wind chill was like -40°.

After I went to college my family moved to Virginia, where they have no snow plowing infrastructure. My brothers had multiple snow days the first school year there, because they cancelled at the slightest hint of snow. Portland is pretty much the same; whenever it snows a couple inches the entire city shuts down.
