Somewhere around 2015-2016 , we actually accidentally broke off into a different timeline by building a Mustang that revs higher than a Civic. The original timeline, however, brought back the Probe to compete with the Civic, so we’re probably better off in this one.

Sad confession time - I’ve never had the Coyote in my ‘17 up to the redline. Even when ( I think) I’m wringing it out a bit, I find myself shifting at 5 or 6k.

I must be getting old... sigh...

As a novice manual driver, I accidentally redline a lot.

That’s ok, that is why cars are equipped with rev limiters... :-D

You have to go to redline at least ONCE.

My sister has owned a probe, a c ivic and a mustang, and all with manual transmissions. I should probably get her on O ppo.

Managed to do that in my CVPI, now I need to figure out how difficult it'd be to swap in a Coyote Gen3 and a 10 speed.

I’ll try to put it on the limiter... someday...  :-)

Red line in a tiny turbo car. Fun yes, but there is no power up top. Due to track driving the redline in my head is 5500rpm, that’ s where all the power & tor que drop off.

Yeah the new Honda’s 1.5l is designed for torque and drivablity not high RPM HP.

No, the one without the Probe is the bad timeline.

Because the Probe got a Yamaha V8 a la the Taurus SHO.

I found the rev limiter in my Golf one time. Now I just shift right on 6k.

My old one was infuriating. The automatic sliding seatbelts (remember those?) would always get stuck halfway in their tracks, or not automatically slide down when I opened the door.

That said it was pretty neat when it worked

The name sucked. The car was good. I have a 95 gt that is in crappy shape, but it's still a fun car to drive.

Because too many electronics. And it looks a hell of a lot less convenient for maintenance compared to the CVPI.

Kinja'd!!!0

Wut. If you don’t need to do as much maintenance then why does it matter how convenient it is? And how is it ‘less convenient’ for maintenance than swapping in a new engine and powertrain?

Put it this way, the Mustang as it is now is overly reliant on computers. Which means a lot of features and systems are blackboxed. Doing any maintenance on the car will invariably require a visit to a dealership. And all the Ford service departments in my area are garbage .

The Crown Vic, on the other hand, doesn’t require such bespoke maintenance work (outside of the electronic modules) . Any joe with a wrench and elbow grease can do what’s needed.

That’s so not true though. All of this maintenance you’re talking about where electronics are the issue is engine related, so if you swapped a Coyote in you’d have the same problem.

An engine is an engine, suspension is suspension. I have a Coyote with nearly 56,000 miles on it and have not had any maintenance issues that would require dealership intervention.

Let me get this straight: You want to swap in an electronic heavy engine, with an even more electronic heavy trans, into a car with a system that wasn’t made to communicate with that engine, to avoid the complexity of the newer, better car?

That’s pretty stupid.

Don’t you take it to a Chevy dealership and overpay anyway already? Why are you concerned about new cars having to be serviced at dealerships if you already get your old ass C rown Vic serviced at a dealership? What actually is that logic?

My roommate works at that dealership. He is able to double check the work done on my car. Also, he drives a Foxbody Mustang.

As far as I'm concerned, that's peace of mind that I need.

Mustang bad because computers

Crown vic fine but it has computers

Bruh what.

Doing any maintenance on the car will invariably require a visit to a dealership.

Pls tell me what maintenance is made so much harder by the Mustang’s “black box” systems. Cuz lemme tell you: AC compressor on a 2018 mustang is just as annoying as an ‘86 mustang. Wheel bearings are actually SIGNIFICANTLY easier on most modern cars. Diagnoses is usually a cakewalk because the computer spits out a code telling me where to start looking (though not necessarily what to replace, so you have to use your noggin). And there’s only one or two potential vacuum leak sources compared to the 80s and 90s cars I’ve owned where the first step in diagnosing any runnability issue consists of “replace $200 worth of obnoxious vacuum lines because they’re shit anyways”.

This luddite attitude is disingenuous and nonsensical.

My car also spits out a code that gives me a place to start looking. That’s the magic of OBDII.

Look, my Crown Vic is basically smack dab in the middle of old-tech and new-tech. Which is pretty comfortable for me. Plus, it has character.

That said, I might consider getting a Mustang or the 4-door Stang (which I’m dubbing the Falcon), only if the car can actually be maintained by the end-user beyond the warranty period.
