The good thing about the internet is that it’s not regulated

The bad thing about the internet is that it’s not regulated

Lawmakers are rarely ever given the full story unless it’s working to their advantage.

The problem with all these platforms is they’re stuck in a model of massive growth in content, to keep the ad revenue coming in to pay for these servers.

I was listening to a podcast that was talking about how youtube went to the labels and pretty much threatened that they were going to be napster version 2, but even worse as you didn’t even have to use disk space, so they better join and be part of it. All the label were lining up lawyers for when the contracts were to be renegotiated, but last may Vevo cut all their non youtube media so who knows if that was settled or just the first round.

look at the 100 highest viewed videos 93 are music. given the push in europe by the labels, don’t be surprised when this is tried here.

The EU has developed a habit of trying to wrangle the internet. Largely the results are good (cookie usage, GPDR), but compliance can be so burdensome that smaller players could choose to ignore EU early on and it’s a serious effort to comply  even for mid-size companies. This might end up reinforcing the larger players if it keeps compounding.

In a country where the copyright lobby is quite politically connected.
