the worst part is when you know a thing is broken, but you don’t know WHY.

I sold my last car, and my last boat, both at times when there was “nothing” wrong with them. I mean, nothing that needed immediate attention.

I loath performing maintenance on my vehicles. I enjoy adding go-fast parts or upgrades. I’m dragging my feet to rebuild my transfer case, but if I were putting a low-gear set in it I’d probably have it done by now. What’s wrong with me?

Man (woman, person, let’s not be like this okay? ) doesn’t need a truck, just needs a project vehicle.

I work with a guy that buys really interesting cars, but he hardly ever drives them for any appreciable amount of time. He fixes them up and sells them and moves onto the next car/fourwheeler/snowmobile/etc. He’s a kindred spirit to the “then it works and is useless to me again” motto.

I usually don’t fall into that trap, but I have been there. One friend of mine goes a little overboard when something isn’t quite right. Firing the parts cannon at a simple run issue only complicates things...

I don’t necessarily feel this way, except in the sense that there’s always something that could be improved, aka “fixed” even if it’s otherwise functioning fine.

But I think it perfectly explains the desire to have a project car or two.

I have a friend who is the same way, but in a fairly narrow spectrum of cars - mainly mid-90's Ford pickups and old jeeps. He’ll buy 2 or 3 for various parts, make them into one good one, drive it around to work out some kinks, then sell it. Also, everything of his is “for sale” at all times.

That makes sense. I am useless with fixing things.

I guess I put the “Opposite” in OppositeLock.

Haha yeah, as long as you have enough vehicles, I suppose you can afford to always have everything for sale or for trade. This guy tended to do a lot of trades, until he found a gem of something or other that he could make a good profit on.

He has one CJ-3B that he goes off-roading with, that he has had for as long as I’ve known him. He could always drive that, and does sometimes, in between others.

When I bought my ‘72 from him, he wasn’t actively trying to sell it. Then he bought it back from me 9 years later for the same price, haha

I just bought a cheap gearbox. The guy who sold it to the previous owner said that it made some noise. The previous owner didn’t confirm this as he had bought two gearboxes and only used one. So do I expect that it needs new (very expensive) bearings or install it under some car to find this out?
