For full 80s luxury, My 1987 Mercury Colony Park has separate ashtrays & cigarette lighters for both rear seat passengers.
These are now completely useless, as I have never allowed smoking in any car I’ve owned. So I added USB adaptors to both lighters, and put a 3' charging cord in the ash tray, so both rear passengers can recharge their phones.
The lids still close.
I also installed this replacement 1991 tailgate. It doesn’t match the color of the wagon, but in every other way it is better as it isn’t rotted through, isn’t bent, isn’t leaking, the weatherstripping isn’t crumbling, the window works, the outside latch doesn’t stick, the inside handle exists, and the hinges aren’t completely. shot.
So I’ll deal with having to do some repainting and swapping out the earlier emblems.
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

Nice!
My first car had lighters and ashtrays for each rear passenger. It had two doors, three lighters, and five ash trays.

Our 84 2 door Grand Marquis had 5 ashtrays and 3 lighters. The lights had a real nice mother of pearl inlay in the top.

I’m fond of pointing out that my 1985 Jaguar has 4 ash trays and 0 cupholders.
A family friend of ours when I was a kid had a 2-door Grand Marquis that has the same back seat ashtrays with lighters as yours - set way back in the armrests. His kids (same age) used them to run portable tape players on trips.

Excellent mod! The lighter circuit in my truck is faulty so I installed 4 usb ports arouns the front of the cabin . Very convenient.
Those lighter sockets are cold when the ignition is off, right? Just make sure you don’t drain your battery if it sits for long periods.
And you remind me that I need a new rear hatch. The 4Runner has a terrible design that collects water and then rusts to death, and mine is basically dead... like I need to spend more money on this heap right now!

They are hot, but the amp draw from the car is so tiny(radio memory and a clock) that three leds aren’t going to really affect it. Come winter I disconnect the battery between uses anyway. So i should be fine .
And if. I'm wrong, pick n pull always has more VW batteries for $20.
