If you paint things to the wall (after you’ve screwed them in using a jet engine) you’re an asshole. There was plenty wrong with this house before you factor in the previous owners, but goddamn are they costing me time and money to fix their mistakes.

I’m convinced that everyone who’s ever owned a house before me has a secret personal vendetta against my sanity. Every one hour job takes three hours because of their stupidity.

Too late now, but in the future, you can use a sharp knife/razor blade to score the paint before removal  to keep it from peeling. Also works well for removing trim cleanly, and for keeping wallpaper intact when removing countertops.

I just close all my doors and have a cup of coffee. Why fix what I can easily avoid?

Might be best to just shelve that for awhile.

No, no. My mind went to carnivores, and then to cannibals , and then to what the paint was covering up, and why it was so thick and....well....eventually it was just Doom.

Previous owner of my place managed to bust all the closet doors off of their hinges and obliterate the outside light by my back door. I’m pretty sure every previous owner is a monster.

The wall wasn’t painted beneath the brackets, so it wasn’t really a huge deal. I only took the shelf down  now because I’m going to have to paint anyway once they demo the furnace closet.

After Christmas we get to tackle the uneven subfloor  and poorly installed laminate! Yay?

Hah. My bedroom was solid yellow when I moved in. The walls are finally good but I can tell the ceiling needs another couple coats of white.

Well I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I’ll never afford to upgrade, so I might as well make the house nice enough to enjoy it, right?

Our current house I’ve had to replace most of the light switches because they were broken. How da fuck do you break a light switch let alone 10?

I get so irrationally mad at people that don’t remove fittings when they paint.

The pro of bui lding my own house is that I have no previous owner shenanigans to deal with. The con of building my own house is that whenever I come across something to complain about, I have to realize I did it.

I know the feeling. Some woman likes to give out our phone number as hers. Ten years later and we still get calls from debt collectors trying to find her.

Sounds like our house, except that the guy who built it was supposedly a contractor....and it was his own house....so.....yeah.

Our basement flooded 2 weeks back....lower part of the walls and the floors and subfloors in the 2 finished rooms and all the closets (2 rooms out of 4) had to be all ripped up.

We found out the concrete underneath is unlevel as all hell, and it’s going to make it hellishly expensive to put down a new floor as a result...

Yeah...the guy who lived here last made “ glass products”  in the garage and worked at Home Depot part time. I can see the connection in his handiwork.

They did something on the first floor that resulted in the floors being 3 inches higher than original , which is obvious because they didn’t move the baseboard trim. I’m expecting a nightmare. Which is why I’m procrastinating for the time being!

It takes some effort, but the uneven floor is something that you can fix yourself if you’re able to handle a bit of labor.

The guy I bought my house from fancied himself as a bit of a carpenter. Every project I get into involves at least one instance of me mumbling Rodney Fucking Homeowner under my breath.  The amount of extra work that he would do to save $5 is mind boggling.
