Until now 25 people have voted for potential dates and locations for our next (week-long) meet. The top 3 of both location and date transfer to round two. Will it be France? Will it be Italy? The second poll is open for votes! Edit : preliminary results added.

But first, let us review the results of the first poll. The results for the location were clear. I’ve given points for every time someone selected they would consider the location, plus lots of bonus points if it was a #1-3 preference. Any way I changed the parameters, the top 3 was always the same:
With the clear winner being the border region between France, Germany and Switzerland, and the runner ups being Tuscany and Umbria in Italy and Eastern France/Northwestern Italy.
So, very roughly speaking, this: (please excuse my Dutch language Google Maps)
More details are found here, in the post where the suggestions were made. Border region between France, Germany and Switzerland:

Tuscany and Umbria in Italy:

And last, Eastern France, Northwestern Italy:

This comment had, partly, the same region in mind:

Date
Then there’s the date. There was no specific preference for individual weeks in the poll. It was mostly focused on mid April until the end of July. You’ll be able to pick weeks you are available and are unavailable in the poll.
Previous trips

Preliminary results:
These are the results from the first 22 voters:
So, without further ado, here’s the link for the second round:

Wish I could go but it’s not in the budget.
And I would have to budget for a flight and car rental as well.

Understandable. It might not be that expensive though . Your fellow American gmporschenut joined us this year. Twice. In March in Wales and in September in Germany/Austria/Slovenia/Italy. You could ask him how much it has cost him, all in.

Well I was in Paris for a little over a week last March and that was a CAD$3000/person trip... and that was without renting/driving a car...
I’m guessing this trip would cost at least as much. Yeah, travelling and going places outside of Paris is cheaper. But I expect the savings to be completely negated by fuel and car rental costs... unless we’re taking a bus tour together.

I believe he paid about $2000 (US) all in for a week in Wales, rental Audi A1, food, lodging, flight, fuel, everything included. You’d have to double check with him. I have no idea about ticket price, but I was shocked by that price as I thought it would be cheaper .
We tend to plan these things rather cheaply, at least from the perspective of those that don’t need an intercontinental airline ticket:
Per day per person: €30 hotel, €20 food, €50 fuel, €30 activities= €130 a day. Rough estimate of the past trips (which I organized!), I wouldn’t be surprised if we actually spent significantly less . Add a few dozen Euros for a rental car and you’re done, airline ticket excluded. Unless the airline ticket is very expensive there is no way it would cost as much as $3k CAN for a week.
Edit : can someone back me up on the daily costs of our previous trips? I don’t want to give false information here :)

I just asked in our euro WhatsApp group: €90-100 a day for Wales, €110-120 a day for Nürburgring/Alps. Food, fuel, place to sleep, everything included. If you were to add a rental car you’d still be at <€1k for a full week.

“I believe he paid about $2000 (US) all in for a week”
Which is about CAD$2600... except the flight is likely to be more expensive for me as I’m flying out of Toronto... so my CAD$3000 guestimate is likely close to the mark. And I’m likely to spend more than that on food because when I travel, I like to try some of the more interesting local stuff... like the steak tartar meal I had that went for 32 Euros alone before anything else before seeing a show at the Moulin Rouge (90 Euros/person plus tax/fees)
The way I see it,when I travel, if I’m in for a penny, then I’m in for a pound.

A big thing raised my costs were 2 nights in London and to some extant 2 nights in E dingburgh. The cost of a cheap room in London for one night , equaled the total s pent for sleeping during the 4 nights of oppomeet monday to friday. Also I rented an A1 which the price could have been cut in half for an A stra.
Had I skipped and landed sunday, I could have shaved off 300usd.
For the wales trip we used AirBNB that could sleep 12 so beds were very reasonable. During the day we typically ate at local places, as it was difficult finding places that could accomodate a large seating, Also more driving time.
For the Alps we took a more leisurely pace, and due to smaller groups rented hotel rooms which were a bit more. Also we went to sit down places so the food prices were a bit more .

Yeah but if it was me, if I’m already spending money on the flight, I would go ahead with spending an extra $300 to see London.
In for a penny, in for a pound...

i wouldn’t say they were any more expensive than a number of US cities. In both I wanted a place near the city center which raised rates a bit. The more annoying thing was traveling alone , $ 12 0 for a single, 140 for a double. traveling with a friend is the quickest way to cut costs 45%.
