On most cars, light bulbs burn out.
On yours, they experience extreme mechanical or electrical failures.
Time to buy an E91

Yeah our Q7 did that too, even with a good bulb. Ended up swapping out the taillights for full led setups.

Ain’t nothin but a bulb right?

Could you not swap one of the indicator bulbs you don’t use for the blown reverse bulb?
;) Only kidding, well, partially.

Better take that to the dealer and have them check it out.

I love me some German cars, but it’s needless shit like this that gives them the reputation they have. I say that as I sit here waiting for primer to dry on mine.

Geez why the hate? I like the bulb check in my MINI. It bugs me people driving around with especially important lights out.
Also, fun fact: My 1985 Jaguar has a bulb check and it even works. No jokes about the prince of darkness, all my lights work!

Cause it’s been eating light bulbs.

Hopefully, it’s been eating bulbs for some reason though.

Have you started pulling apart the body to gain harness access yet?

COULD BE THE TRUNK/HATCH WIRING HARNESS
my e60 has 1x brake light, 1x running light and 1x lic plate light...luckily it h as 2 of each on each side, and 2 lic plate ones. So still legal!

Cool. Mine does that too

My Volvo puts up a message like this for some bulbs:
Unfortunately it doesn’t do it for all bulbs, so you still need to check around the car from time to time.

Can you replace it with an aftermarket LED bulb that just goes in the socket? Maybe that will be more tolerant of whatever electrical gremlin is burning your bulbs

Wait, people don’t like this? This seems great! I wish my cars did this!
Or does it only do it for lights and not more useful failure conditions?

this may seem stupid but what brand are you using?
try a genuine bulb and see how that goes, it might just be lower quality bulbs being used
