Remember there’s this bottom bar when there is infinite scroll.

Kinja'd!!!

No, Kinja team. I do not feel extra engaged in staying on the site when I see infinite scroll. I just close the freakin tab. Just get rid of that shit already. Adding that thicker blue line won't make me hate it less.

if you ever feel useless, remember that there are people in BMW plants whose job is to install the turn signals.

Infinite Scroll wouldn’t be so bad if it automatically opened up additional comments instead of articles. But you’re right, there needs to be a better way to access the stuff at the bottom of the page. It’s time for Infinite Scroll to die.

Except the whole idea was to keep an user “engaged”, i.e. staying on a particular page longer. Sites that make ad revenue is benchmarked based on that, the theory is that the longer you stay at a page the better chance you notice an ad on that page .

It has nothing to do with usability or anything, just cheating metrics.

To what extent is it based on clicks? I’ve been wondering that. Is “getting clicks” all about visiting different pages, or do all the in-page clicks count as well ?

Infinite Scroll suggests that it’s about visiting as many pages as possible, but having to keep clicking  “more replies” suggests that they’re trying for more literal intentional clicks.

I was more referring to visibility of an ad, and the probability of clicking the ad itself , I don’t think the gauge clicks unless it’s the ad itself.
