Random as car sleuthing story?
I live in Australia, today I saw a new Ford F250 truck, still left hand drive. It had a small sticker on the drivers window that read “CAUTION: This vehicle is fitted with prototype systems that may not adhere to Federal Safety...blah blah” and sitting on top of the dash was literally a big red button (emergency stop style) on a little box with a wire leading down into the dash.
My coworker and I were pretty curious about this, and he used to work at a place that converted them to right hand drive, who also became very curious about, and asked his mate that worked at Ford R&D (we are all located in the same suburb just streets from each other hence the coincidences) and he said “I can’t say anything other than its Ford’s big secret”.....

And I will leave it at that.

I hear the Big Red Buttons in Australia are bigger than those in America

don’t read too much into it. the emergency stop switch (the big red button) is there because it’s legally required (in the US) for prototype vehicles with throttle by wire which are operating on the road with powertrain control module (PCM) code/calibrations which aren’t validated. if you’re driving one of those test vehicles and it experiences an “Uncommanded throttle opening” you’re supposed to hit that button which will kill the engine.

I accidentally did that once in a test car when I was trying to get the camo cover for the dash back into place.

Ford Oz are considering the official return of the F250 and perhaps F350 to Oz.

They (like the rest of Ford) are also just beginning to work with VW on commercial vehicles...

Probably all it was, though I still see it around and this time driving into the former Ford Performance Vehicle facility (still owned by Prodrive)
