I stole these pics from the Gambler 500-Illinois FB group, and put the poster of them as the photo credit .

Anyways, I’ve seen a lot of stuff, but this is regadamndiculous. You’ll never hear me argue for inspections, but any cop should be able to impound this piece of shit.

My dad lives in Williams Bay, WI - so I drive the rural WI roads just over the border from Antioch. I’ve never seen anything this bad, but there are a LOT of old GM (and Ford/Mopar) cockroaches along those roads.

Stancelife, one corner at a time. As soon as he can afford it, he’ll lower the left-rear, then the right-front, then the left-front. It will only take three more paychecks.

I enjoy that it looks like some effort was put into cleaning up the wheel arch rust and probably the rocker rust as well. Like putting lipstick on a parapalegic pig! Hitting a speed bump or a pothole too hard with some stuff in the bed would probably break the damn thing in half. I want to see how long it would last on a bumpy dirt road.

Yes, but, the truck is sitting parked, which means the driver isn't speeding or on his phone, and, as far as I know, those are the only vehicular laws there are. Or, at least, those are the only two that are enforced.

Kinja'd!!!3

Yep, I’m not thrilled about the potential for abuse, but really it’s worth it to keep some of these deathtraps off the road. I’m frankly surprised insurance doesn’t require inspections in states where the state does not. I sure wouldn’t want to be on the hook for the damages when that thing breaks in half at speed.

The rural roads clogged with $200K SUV and classic cars probably worth even more yet? Some poor folk habitating in that there area. I’m half kidding. For the most part the wealth is pretty low key.

The once rock solid farm vehicles are a mainstay of roads around there.

In Lake Geneva (or going back and forth between LG and the city), sure - I meant the farmland between I94 and LG.

That’s mostly pickup trucks, 90's LeSabres, Grand Prixs, Tauruses, G6's etc etc.

Not really, and if it is, I would expect it to be insured for the comically-low state minimum, but I’d still expect insurance companies to be interested in whether or not they are insuring this sort of junk.

The worst I’ve seen was a early nineties Taurus with the back bumper dragging, because the stru towers were gone, and back doors so rusted that if it wasn’t for the interior door panels you’d be able to see through it.

I think this tops that

I swear, if I was a cop, I’d win the Spirit of Philadelphia dinner cruise every quarter, or whatever the recognition is for exceeding quota. Tailgating - ticket, overweight - ticket, unsecured load - ticket, headlight out - ticket, tampering with/deactivating required emissions equipment - ticket, tires wider than body work - ticket. You’ve got to think outside the box, there’s a whole lot of untapped potential out there.

It is a 4.8. I’m a bit of a lead foot, so I get 14-15 around town. Highway only I typically see 17-18, 19 isn’t unheard of. I did once get the EPA rating of 21 highway. I did an entire day of steady state cruising at 58 mph.

Antioch is my home town, for better or worse. That, ahem, thing, is parked in front of the Piggly Wiggly in the picture. I wonder if it’s still there. I’ll have to drive past in the morning.

WilliamsSW’s route to W illiams Bay is similar to mine into work... can confirm a large number of quietly decomposing vehicles in this area. (None in my lawn, thank you.)

Ugh, Uhaul. I got a 16' Sierra from Uhaul once that was quite a shit-show. It wasn’t as bad as the one they tried to stick you in, but it sure sucked. The cab door  bushings were so worn out, the wind resistence from the box attic peeled the top of the door frame back so badly, I could see light through where the door was supposed to shut against the A-pillar.
