is “porsche 912" is currently on CL for 5500 bucks. no drive train, no interior, its rusty and the entire front end is smashed, most of the glass is gone, both bumpers are gone, all the brite work is missing, aside from the P O R S C H E on the hood . and its worth more than a 2006 Honda Fit.

I guess you’re basically paying for the VIN.

That actually seems... low. Which is insane, but still...

Oh an early Flachbau

I can think of cheaper way to buy a VIN number.

Judging by the surrounding racks, he knows what he’s got...

“for parts”. Looking at the photos, that thing’s been picked cleaner than a year-old c arcass in death valley. Seller is an idiot.

“project car”
![]() 11/07/2018 at 15:05 |

if the project is a tube chassis ratrod Porsche then yes.

But would it be a smashed Porsche of questionable value?
![]() 11/07/2018 at 15:16 |

no it would be from a 80s VW cabriolet

I’ll admit I know darn little about Porsches beyond “it’s not likely I’ll ever be able to afford one”. But $5500 for THAT???!?!? That seems the crackiest of prices, especially when you can buy this apparently very nice example of a 69 912 for $47k.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think you could restore that pile of rust for less than $42k. Add the price of the original pile of rust
, and I think buying the already restored version would be a somewhat better deal.
![]() 11/07/2018 at 15:35 |

in that case, $5500 is a bargain!

It’s a Porsche. You’re not buying a VIN. You’re buying a paint code.

Small price to pay to be able to stand next to it (covered up, obviously).
( Completely unrelated : don’t search for images of “joey standing next to porsche”, at least on DuckDuckGo with safe search off.)

Yeah, for that money I think I’d rather have a 924/944. Or maybe a Boxs ter for a little more.

fro that money id rather have a room full of snickers bars.

My doctor would frown on that. And I’d peanut butter cups anyway...

upon closer inspection of the background, maybe it’s this guy:
will buy porsche or early vw in any condition

Yeah a lot of their cars are solid examples that really deserve a full restoration, or could be driven with the patina left where it is. Some are piles of iron oxide

“worth”
I suspect some people do
n’t know the meaning of it. Or they have way too much money.
