...Who’s constantly looking for cars for sale online? I mean several times a day, it has been a favorite time killer for years now- During morning poop time, lunch time, slow office hours,  before going to sleep. I have saved searches set up on Autotrader, Carmax, Cargurus for vehicles I’ll probably never buy- like trucks, I honestly don’t know why I was looking at GMC Canyon Denalis the other day.

I have had cars in saved lists for 6 months straight and I actualy got sad it sold even though I was years away from being in the market, Thinking “Man If only I were looking I would bave bought that”

I am not on Craigslist looking for beaters or projects or on BAT and other high end auction sites looking for cars I would own if I were a millionaire. These are cars I can daily drive and afford but even then there’s so many options out there. I do love configuring Porsches and other expensive metal on Build your own websites that I could never afford but time spent on that is small compared to unnecessary car shopping.

Kinja'd!!!

Am I the only one? Is all of Oppo just like me?

Questions abound...

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about buying a car on the west coast and driving it back east. A vacation with a purpose. So I've stopped looking at local cars for sale and instead started scouring sites for west coast cars.

My cut off is a 5 hour drive but I would love to do something like that. Hopefully the car is a a great deal, a   good highway cruiser and I can enjoy the trip back home.

i dont look for used cars that often.... once a week maybe.... the market for cars over 30 years old isnt a fast moving one... so no point in looking too often

Yep, (although I’m a night pooper compared to morning poop time). I’m in the kind of position to purchase my first car now and I’m currently very conflicted between picking something I want (Lexus NX/ RX/GX/LX) and something that makes sense (Toyota Avalon/Honda Accord).

The difficult part comes after you find a car. Do you get someone local to check it out? How do you keep it from getting sold before you get there?

Yeah that complicated. It would be easier to buy something from North Carolina because I could have my Brother check it out for me, even buy the car before I get there, but there’s more cars in a California. Altho prices on pre smog regulations  cars are cheaper in NC.

I think we need to establish some sort of Oppo car exchange. Like if I wanted to sell my Miata, I sell it to someone on here for a good price. They fly  here and drive it back. Then I can buy a car from an Oppo in CA, fly there and drive it back.

The problem with working at a dealership is you’re constantly looking at cars at the lot and seeing the prices and monthly payments and saying, “Hmm...I could probably swing that.” I’ve done that with everything from a Civic Touring Hatchback to a 2012 Suburban LTZ.

I recently even started looking at lease rates even though I have only ever bought used. Carsdirect has everything listed and I keep thinking how I could afford a V8 Charger for less per month vs a 33 0i

I went through this buying the BRZ, what with it being in Houston. I spent a ton of time looking up reviews of places in the area that do pre-purchase inspections, though I ultimately ended up just relying on Subaru’s CPO inspection and an examination by Uly. As for keeping it from getting sold, I put $1,000 on it early on to hold it. Once I was decided I sent them a loan check for the balance and they sent me the paperwork. Aside from some headaches with Texas state forms that my bank had never seen before and Massachusetts state forms the dealer had never seen before (the Mass RMV-1 form can eat me) it was pretty painless. The worst part was the waiting, t here was a good three weeks between when I closed on the loan and when I finally had the time to go get it.

Thanks for explaining the process. In my hypothetical scenario, it probably would have been something cheaper, like maybe 5 grand. That would mean something a lot more questionable. So maybe I should rethink this in terms of a better, higher quality car like your brz.
