Clearly you haven’t seen the Ohio results.
Officially now a permanent one party state. You will cheer for the GOP or they will not even pretend to let you vote.

Ah, yes, Ohio turned red. But Indiana republicans are basically landlocked! Even then, Toledo and Cleveland chose Dems by double digits.

No joke, I have a formula for a soil booster that was proven to increase the yield of those plants by 15-20%. There are massive amounts of acreage near traverse city that would love to buy some.
Just biding my time be fore I can cash in....

Still lots of red in northern Michigan which makes sense since it’s mostly forests and farmland. Even in parts of the thumb, it can get pretty barren. But places like Marquette in the UP and even the smaller cities are going back to blue after the horrible mismanagement practices under our soon-to-be-previous governor.
Flint was the worst case scenario. Going private to save a buck by poisoning thousands and literally throwing away 5 dollars for every dollar you might’ ve theoretically saved? And EVERYONE told you that was the only outcome? And you STILL did it? Wow. Al l faith in him was gone after that.
Full disclosure - I was one of many who called it happening to the letter. I had a front row seat for a brief period - we looked into the water quality for a while in my chemistry program in coll ege and took water samples and what not. Soooooooooooooo yeah. Litt le biased, but for good reason.

T he clear geographic difference is really interesting regardless of what your political leanings are - what makes people’s views swing strongly conservative the farther they get away from water? And what explains Florida?

I’ll live regardless.

Nothing explains Florida.... They should’ve voted for the Democrat.
What I find ironic is that one of the most liberal counties is called Gadsden.
I think rurality makes you feel more independent, so Democrats seem excesively paternalistic to rural voters.

Old white men live in Florida. Old white men voted republican. Wasn’t a surprise at all, really.

Nah. It requires a few things you can’t just get down at the local gardening store. Plus I will try and get us to make some on the side under a new brand name....

Which is completely irrelevant, because of the way Kasich rigged things. The only way to fix shit is redistricting.
That’s in the control of the State House. Which is a 1 party rule dictatorship. If they don’t do what DeWhiner says, he has absolute veto over any redistricting. At which point he gets to appoint a seven member commission which includes himself, which gets to draw up the lines however they like.
Which is how they packed the State House this time. So they can pack shit even more in their favor. Not that the rule of law means anything here any more.

I can totally see that with truly rural folks, just don’t like anybody regulating them and feel they get less benefit from the common good (roads, healthcare, defense, etc.) but what we have really is broad spectrum - urban, suburban, rural, etc, the one cohesive commonality is distance from a coastline, (except Florida.) It’s really interesting honestly. There are several doctoral thesis in there somewhere.

Well, at least three states voted for independent re-districting councils...

That’s fair, probably big money in that if you convince people. Good luck.

That’s why they very deliberately took away the right of Ohio voters to even propose such a thing go on the ballot.

I mean, even on the General Ohio was a longshot, the Governor won by six points

The dem’s running mate in the Ohio gubernatorial race was one of the authors of the idiotic Cash for Clunkers program, so I’m really glad they didn’t win.

Eh, we did better than a lot of states. All the props passed, by a large margin. New Governor, some new seats, fingers crossed.

Yeah, Vermont also elected an incumbent R, despite having democrats all over the house and senate (shut up, Bernie, you’re a democrat now)
I liked that they did that, because it showed they could separate themselves from national politics.
