No matter where you sit on the political spectrum, make your vote count! I noticed some interesting things in my local polls...
Last time I voted (2016) I lived in a liberal city in a liberal county. Now I live in a “purple” city in a conservative county. In 2016 the Democrats ran unopposed in local elections. I wasn’t surprised by this as I knew that few pay attention to local politics.
When I went to vote tonight I saw that the Republicans ran unopposed tonight in local elections. I checked the ballot in the city I used to live in and saw that the Democrats were again running unopposed as well. This makes me sad because I sorta feel like little has changed. I know Trump’s election got a staggering amount of people left and right into federal and state politics, however it seems the wave of new blood skipped local politics. Some of these people have been in office for almost as long as I’ve been alive. Some of them in part because nobody bothers to oppose them. Maybe next time.
Side note: I’m coming ever so close to just saying “screw it, I’m running for public office in 2020" but I keep holding myself back. I watched as a bestie's friend ran for alderman in his city and it looked really fun. But I need to be realistic. lol
Have Lincoln for your time.

Everyone is reminding each other to vote, but without saying who to vote for. so realistically
it’s a net neutral

My two local options were unopposed as well. Didn’t have anything good to write in.

I live in a red state in a now red/formerly blue county. Last cycle I saw a lot of unopposed republican candidates , this time it was only some of the judges that were unopposed republicans.
Our state (Missouri) passed a right to work law that was rejected soundly (70%) during a ballot measure at the primary in August. So there is some momentum of support as we used to be a big union area, but we lost several large manufacturing employers during the recession and they all believe Trump is going to fix everything for them (their words) .
So while there is still some union support in the area , I’m not optimistic on this election locally.
There is medicinal cannabis on the ballot which has a pretty good amount of support that has me hopeful of passing though!

My local delegate has been in office as long as I can remember. Last year (VA does state elections on odd years) was the first time he had an opponent, and he won handily.

I didn’t vote for anyone who ran unopposed.
Gas tax, no thanks, although if I worked on the roads , it’d have been yes.

Voting for Governor was harder for me than voting for the President. In Illinois our choices are:
- JB Pritzker (a billionaire Democrat who gives ambiguous answers to important questions. Can’t really tell what he actually stands for outside of being filthy rich).
- Bruce Rauner (a billionaire Republican who’s a huge mixed bag. He’s pretty good on social/civil issues but he sucks at basically everything else. He keeps pissing off his base by being nice to gay people and women).
- Kash Jackson (a Libertarian with a number of good positions on state and even national issues, however he knew from the start tha t he didn’t stand a chance against what’s being called the “Battle of the Billionaires” ).
- Sam McCann (a Conservative who likes to spend other people’s money on expensive cars. Like Jeanne Ives (who lost the Primary to Rauner) , he basically only exists to say that Rauner isn’t hateful enough).

Live in Illinois as well. As a right leaning moderate, I was not happy with any of em

That’s definitely fair, governor in Il has been a mess for a while. When ours (MO) was mired in scandal and resigned in disgrace we all kept joking he kept thinking he was a governor of IL.
And while it’s not my state, I’d have a hard time voting for Rauner when he couldn’t get along with the legislature for what a year and a half and operated without a budget fucking a large amount of things up.
His handling of the Quincy veterans home issues also it pretty bad, but not much worse than how most states run those things.
As long as he doesn’t end up in federal jail for corruption he’s better than most governors of IL though...

I voted yes on the gas tax, I guess you live in MO too. A few cents extra won’t kill me and out legislature is too chickenshit to pass a tax on their own (lowest cigarette tax in the nation ).

Hey now, only 50% of our last four governers are in federal prison.
Oh, that's not a good record, is it?

LOL!
But no it isn’t great...
Most governors go onto to run for things like senate, president, cabinet positions but not in IL- ha!

It’s only 9:31 cst and I’m already dreading the 2020 results. Honestly, if projections hold and Dems t
ake the House, great, but it’s not enough. They flipped a bunch of Gubernatorial races, wonderful, it’s not enough. I’m seriously considering becoming an ex-pat now even more
so than I was in mid
November 2016.

Not that any of it matters as long as Madigan is running the show.
