How do people drive with their windows all up, AND the HVAC turned OFF? Seriously , WTF people I am suffocating one minute in!! You SOULLESS LIZARD PEOPLE! (I asked them to turn on the fan almost immediately, it was unbearably stifling)
I am not going to police your turn signal use, but turn hat thing off after you’ve used it. CAN YOU NOT HEAR THE INCESSANT CLICKING?!
Use the High beams! And turn down the high beams when a car is approaching. THEY ARE FLASHING THEIR HEADLIGHTS AT YOU FOR A REASON!
If your car doesn’t have auto headlights, turn them on or off based on conditions. Oh the number of times I have told people that their headlights were off and they were driving with the daytime running lights on.
Stop constantly tapping the brakes! Smooth smooth smooth! not brake gas brake gas brake gas. Have you heard of COASTING, MOTHERFUCKER? A jerky driving style is very uncomfortable to passengers.
People who leave their windshield wipers on when the rain stops, or they have them going much faster or slower then they need to.
Constantly, I mean CONSTANTLY changing music. GOD FUCKING DAMNNIT FINISH ONE SONG FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
I know there’s a whole different list of bad driving habits on tailgating, signalling, merging, following signs, texting, too aggressive or too wimpy etc. but this is outside of all that, specifically annoying and mildly infuriating things that drive me mad as a passenger.
Anyway, rant over.

Do like I do, just close your eyes and sleep till you get there. You’ll live longer.
Unless, of course, the driver does something stupid you could have prevented were you paying attention, and you both end up dead.

Alternatively, people who never cross even 3000RPM when driving (Manual or Auto doesn’t matter) even when merging on to a 75 mph freeway with a Semi barreling down your rear bumper because it would “strain the engine”. USE THE ENGINE AS IT WAS INTENDED FOOL! YOU’RE GOING TO KILL US ALL! I am not asking you to rev it to the redline.

I’m not sure I agree with you on the headlights. Growing up in the hilly country meant that we had to pay close attention to switching between high and low beams. Rule of thumb was if you could see another car’s lights, turn off your high beams. Out there in no-streetlight land, another car could blind you from in front or behind from over half a mile away. Second rule - if you can see lights coming from the other side of the hill (they light up the trees), then turn your high beams off.
For most motorists, I’d prefer they just leave their high beams off. There’s really not much of a reason to illuminate the entire forest when your low beams do an adequate job illuminating the thing you really need to see - the road.

I’m with you there. I drove a coworker around the other day and he commended that I was running the revs high. I drive a 5spd and don’t shift until 5k most of the time. When my nanny shift light tells me to change gears at 2100 rpm I very much ignore it...

Revving it to the redline is still using the engine as it’s intended. If you need the power, you need it and that’s that. Most autos will go to redline if you leave the gas matted. The only non-arbitrary cutoffs are redline and the actual fuel cutoff. Always hated this about my dad. Even now he has a DSG and he will _always_ manually upshift it at like 5K even if we’re about to hit a semi head on because he got too ambitious overtaking. He does so many annoying things behind the wheel but that one’s actually dangerous!

Me, all the time (RPM, not the merge speed). I grew up driving diesels and my dad was a truck driver so low revs feel comfortable for me. Plus, the tdi hits peak torque at like, 1700 RPM and above 3k you don’t have much. I come close to redline at least once pretty much every time I drive the 348 but when I’m casually cruising, I def catch myself shifting early.

That’s exactly what my dad taught me. Lots of parts here where there is dense woods and zero light. High beams are always on UNTIL I see a glimpse of someone else’s lights and then I quickly snap mine off before blinding them.

I’m waiting to make a left turn out of a driveway onto a busy road. To my right, there’s a large gap in traffic. But there are too many cars coming up from the left. Better wait.
So I wait. As the cars pass in front of me going left-to-right, I see a gap coming up. I get ready to make my move, but before I do, the last car in that line slows down as it gets closer. Is the car stopping for me ? ...Nope, it just turns into the same driveway that I’m trying to escape. Gee, thanks. If only they had indicated their turn, I could have gone ahead and not have been in their way at all.
But it’s too late now. That car slowed enough for the cars behind it to catch up and close that gap, and now I have to wait for another opportunity . All because somebody didn’t feel like signaling.

Ummm... maybe because the temperature is just right?
“CAN YOU NOT HEAR THE INCESSANT CLICKING?!”
Isn’t that just part of the song on the radio?
“driving with the daytime running lights on.”
Daytime running lights? I don’t need to turn on the lights... my car does it automatically. See... this little green headlight shaped light on my dashboard tells me the lights are on. Though I don’t understand why all the gauges look so dark...
“Stop constantly tapping the brakes”
I’m just being a safe driver!
“People who leave their windshield wipers on when the rain stops ”
I just want to leave them on... just to be sure.
“Constantly, I mean CONSTANTLY changing music.”
Well I don’t want to hear any commercials and I might be missing a better song...

While it is a commonly held belief that having your brights on will mitigate your risk of hitting a deer, the truth is not so clear. Deer are adapted for low light and see motion better than detail. Bright lights dazzle them and make them freeze in place until the “predator” gets close enough to trigger flight behavior which includes running and jumping. Their field of vision has little overlap, so their binocular vision - their ability to perceive depth - is extremely limited. When running across your path, they can’t perceive depth at all since they are effectively seeing your car with only one eye.
Driving with your brights on makes the situation worse.
lone_liberal
> TheRealBicycleBuck
11/06/2018 at 19:57 | 2 |
I’m not talking about scaring them from off from the road . I’m talking about your brights giving off enough light in front and to the side to be able to either make out their outline or see the reflection from their eyes while they’re still on the side of the road and before they jump out in front of you.

Wipers going too fast for conditions are a key sign of an inept driver. Same for brake tapping.
TheRealBicycleBuck
> lone_liberal
11/06/2018 at 20:40 | 0 |
And I’m saying that if your lights are low, there’s less chance they will freeze in place, then run in front of you when you get close. If you can see the reflection in their eyes, then your lights are bright enough to dazzle them. If you don’t dazzle them, there’s a better chance they will detect the motion and move away from the road instead of freezing in place. The large pupil and tapetum lucidum ( reflective surface in their eye) means that a headlight appears 50 times brighter to a deer than it does to us.

Im going to have to disagree with you there. Im not talking about the brightness thing. Im talking about the behavior of deer in stressful situations. They do NOT behave predictably in the instant of a stressful moment. Before and after? Yes. But in the moment they just act. Some run, some run and double back. My dad hit one the other day who triple backed. Some just stand there frozen .

People who leave their windshield wipers on when the rain stops, or they have them going much faster or slower then they need to.
This makes one look like they don’t know what they’re doing. I judge how bad of a driver (person) one is based on how poorly they handle the basic task of wiping the dang windows. I’d rather you never use your turn signal than have your wipers set to 11 when there’s a slight drizzle.
