Sponsored post saying that putting non-OEM windshields in your Toyota will mess with safety tech and possibly lead to firey death. What a world we live in.

On the other hand, I'm 90% sure my car has at least one functioning airbag.

I cracked three Safelite windshields just by jacking up my Abarth. They are not wrong.

Hm. Now I’m second-guessing my windshield. It was my first ( and so far only) Safelite replacement, and it cracked a couple y ears ago while washing it on a hot day. Every time I drive it, I’m reminded of my rookie mistake. But now I wonder if an OE one would have held up... ?

I just got a letter in the mail that my airbag will probably kill me.

I really  should finally get that Takata recall taken care of.

Hopefully your dealer actually gives a shit. My local dealer blew me off until I had reference numbers from Subaru Canada for all three outstanding recalls on my car. Lazy bastards.

Main reason I’ve put it off is I was pretty sure if that’s all I needed that I’d be ignored.  Now I have the apparently fire catching wiper motor and need some other service done so hopefully I can get it all taken care of at once.

It helps if they accidentally fry your computer and have to order a new one from Japan. They get pretty accommodating after that

Unsure if a 22 year old on e is worse o r better. Did you know you’re supposed to replace them like every 5 years?

Re place what every 5 years?

If you’re talking about airbags, some manufacturers recommend and inspection every 10-15 years, but that’s it.

A far as a replacement, that would be absurd, as each bag costs about $1500 plus labor to replace, and a vehicle is going to have between 6 and 12 airbags.

After 10 years, just assume they don’t work anymore and go on with your life.

I would think those cracks say more about the Abarth than they do the glass.

The safety component of a windshield is the laminant between layers that keep it from coming apart in a crash. That’s the only part that has to work from a safety perspective.

FIAT can be blamed for a lot of things , but not for Safelite’s shitty windshields. I got my factory glass in there and never had another problem. I wasn’t the only person to have this issue with Safelite windshields.

I think 5 year airbags was something I read in the maintenance interval for my 96 Golf. There are two airbags total in that car, and they were of one of the earliest generations, so that statement isn't relevant to a vehicle from this century.

I would just be concerned that the car flexed that much from being jacked up.

Was it front side or back side?

If it was flexing more than any other car, FIAT must have sprinkled Italian fairy dust in their windshields to keep it from happening.

The 500 has a pretty big windshield which contributes to it cracking if shitty glass is used.

I had never really looked at the 500 that way, but you’re right, the glass looks bigger than the hood!
