I believe some people left because they got banned during one of the political shitstorms. JKM was one of them. It’s one reason I stay away from politics on oppo.

Yes, there were a few that got banned at that time - JKM and MKBruin were two, but I think there may have been more. Beyond that, it seems like a few more people left around that time - I get the impression they walked away (not banned) but I could be wrong.

I get why the mods allow politics on here, but the less of it, the better, as far as I’m concerned. No one convinces anyone of anything, it just ends up with pissed off people either earning the banhammer or walking away.

JKM’s ban was supposed to be a week, but he asked the mods several times if he could be reinstated before it actually happened (and all of these times were after the week was up) , and by the time it did, he gave up and hasn't come back. It's also why BM2 left.

He left on his own. I think he was also just generally tired of this place becoming more and more of an echo chamber. I don’t blame him, and occasionally think about leaving myself (despite being a moderate, I still feel unwelcome from time to time). I’m in a group chat with both of them, so I talk to them regularly.

Same. I consider myself pretty much dead center, with some libertarian sympathies (the “if what you’re doing doesn’t harm anyone other than yourself why should I care” type, not the “free market should control everything” type, which makes me generally on the right section of the user base here. And why I also don’t discuss politics much here.
