After that post about Chris Harris in the 2CV I went and read the whole Wikipedia article.
It’s not really me, but what a fascinating car

Now go and read the one about the Traction. Equally fascinating in its own way. Technological audacity that would make Tesla green with envy, and which broke the worlds 4th largest car maker.

Of course, I do know of the DS and SM. But why not read/re-read the articles?
I know little of the GS and CX. Man I thought the CX was a more regular car, just carrying over that fancy suspension.
Will read.
I started the Traction Avant article in bed last night
. Ugh, it’s so GOOD.

Oh just that, I may have read them at some point, but it’s high time I read them again. And if I haven’t read them before, that’s also a good reason to do it!
That’s fantastic, you’re a lucky guy. I think I’m going to buy a book on Citroen, they might be the most interesting car company ever.
I’ve read through the Traction Avant and GS articles. They’re fascinating, but not in the same vein as the 2CV. Both cars were innovative and relatively popular, but subject to high development costs. Both cars bankrupted the company forcing sale, first to Michelen then to PSA.
The 2CV is a story of success! They designed the car for ‘39, but France got invaded that same year and it didn’t hit market ‘til 1949. Yet despite this, and despite having to hide tooling and prototypes from the invading Germans, and despite the press slamming the car on release for being cost effective to the point of absurdity, people adored it such that its best sales year was 1974! It was so popular that it was profitable to build and sell for like 45 years.
That story of Citroen’s hard work paying off despite the setbacks, that’s a good read :)
