The Niro EX quickly went up the list of SX4 replacements. These seem to tick all the boxes I and my parents set out for their next vehicle.

I have a 2017 EX in blue , it’s our main family car. Done 42 000km (26 000 miles) with it in 15 months.
Plus: Super confy. Gas mileage is awesome, about 50 mpg real average. At first I was impressed by the hybrid stuff but living with it, the stuff I appreciate even more is the interior, it’s really well put together and well laid out. It’s still rare on the road so that’s cool too. Warranty.
Minus: Small trunk. Some people complain about the transmission jerking in stop and go traffic, but that’s just how it’s meant to be. Just put in in Sport Mode and it behaves like a normal car. Anyway you will see that in a test drive.

Isn’t the Niro FWD only?

I liked it, but not as much as Mazda's offerings

ah, OK. I just figured since replacing an SX4 that AWD would be a concern... if it isn’t, then it is a non-funny-looking useful-interior-spaced, compact hybrid with great fuel economy and SUV looks and seating position (if that’ s your thing)

Yes. ORLG with a few(or more) drinks in him was uncomfortable in the back seat .

Fun fact; we own a FWD SX4 hatch...1 of like none in the US.

You mean the comment below me? Touring has 18 inches wheels, all the other have 16 inches, that can help.
I don’t find it rough, it takes bumps much better than any car I had.
Opinions are opinions... go drive it.

Another benefit of 16 inches wheels is that it doesn’t cost a fortune when buying tires, a rare thing nowadays with all new cars rolling on DUBS

I’ve never even seen a FWD SX4 hatch in person. I saw a Suzuki Equator this past weekend, and I have seen both several Saab 9-7x Aeros a Saab 9-4x Aero, a US market Koenigsegg, An Alfa TZ, and a Zagato TZ3, o ne of the 6 known to exist Alfa 158 GP cars... B ut n ever a FWD SX4 hatch.

Goods?
Spacious, Simple controls, Super easy to use infotainment with Android/Apple conenctivity, easy to read gauges, good visibility, easy to get in and out. All the safety features you’ll ever need. Need to get the package though. I think they made it standard recently, 46MPG easy in city driving. Very safe, it’s an IIHS Top safety + pick. 19 Cu feet space behind rear seats that can be folded flat 60:40.
Heated seats are great. Handles pretty decent for what it is but the traction control is super aggressive. Steering is typical electric numb-feeling. Sport mode is actually good, and no fiddling around for buttons and modes in screen, just slap the shifter to the left, I love that.
Bads?
Cheap buttons and hard plastics in some places, some rattles and squeaks but nothing too bad, jerky transmission at bumper to bumper traffic, but at least it’s good once it starts moving, thank goodness not a CVT. Put it in Sport mode and it’s fine. Wish the seats were a little softer personally as I used to softer leather and not vinyl, but I had no problems on a 2 hour drive.
Road noise?
Yes, I would attribute it to the low rolling resistance tires, also the fact it is a hatch/wagon with open cargo area in the back doesn’t help, keep that cargo cover closed,it helps. I would say it is on par with any mainstream compact car from Kia Hyundai or American brands.
Daily drivability?
Very easy car to drive. Get in put it in drive and go. No weird shifters , no setting up anything beforehand except for connecting your phone.
Mpg’s?
rated at 51 city / 46 highway
We have been getting 46MPG , 50 on some trips. I drive it in Sport mode all the time. But beware it drops a lot with the loaded Touring model but you get a lot more features. EX with safety package is the best balance IMO.
