Well, in all fairness your SEVS list and ridiculous a sbestos policies do prevent you to import A LOT of cars... Hopefully that stupid list changes soon but it will change for a similar 25 or 30 year old rule so it’s not really better...

Blame James Hardie for our asbestos regulations. They will never be relaxed as a result.
As for the SEVS list...that won’t change given nearly every car company on the planet has ADR compliant imports here already and their representing organisation are very effective political lobbyists. The hey days of grey imports from Japan are gone...

Do they? What sort? We have some slightly weird stuff for Japanese cars, but I find most things aren’t forbidden

Well, first anything that may have been slightly in contact with asbestos at one point is a no go for australia... So anything older than 1985 is pretty much impossible to import as-is in australia... You could import an empty shell of an older car, but that’s about it... And even then, it better have been professionaly cleaned as the smallest residue of asbestos means that the car will be seized by customs.
Then that list: http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/sevsindex.htm#_ftn1
If it’s not on it, you can’t import it... Fairly simple... So you have Skylines or S15 Silvia for example, but SOOOOO many cars can’t be imported... You can always lobby to get other cars added to that list but it’s a real pain in the ass and requires lots of costly work.

Oh I see. Like the 240Z’s engine in MightyCarMods which they had to bin.
Do you know of anything notable that’s not on that list?

It’s not just the engine, it’s the brakes, transmission basically any part that may have been in contact at one point with it... And y eah, all the fun keicars you can’t get (Suzuki Alto works, Cappuccino, Subaru RX-R...etc etc) , tons of stuff from Europe and of course, any actual collectible car from the 80's, 70's or 60's which you can only import if you spend a shit load of money...

Ah! Of course. What a strange choice for an ADM car
