Heh, that reminds I haven’t even started digging into why my truck’s dome light doesn’t work. And why the dash backlight switch is so finicky. And what that puff of smoke that came out when I first switched the lights on was.

I had a whole slew of light problems that happened after something sparked when I was trying to get the cigarette lighter light to work, I fixed all of those, got the car driving again, cleaned it up. But now I have no spark.

Why do you think I specialized electrical when I wrenched? No compression is easy. Figuring out why 90.3 FM is nothing but static in one car but perfectly fine in an identical YMM in the exact same position? Black fucking magic.

I’ve come to the summation that my car needs all new wiring. Ever time I look at the wires I fine another one with dried out insulation with at least one hole in it.

Yep. That’s a completely reasonable and correct conclusion there. Once you have jacket degrading on more than one wire? Jacket material’s fucked for the whole thing, only fix is a whole new harness. Which not surprisingly, causes a lot of folks to immediately trade it in.
