Recently I made a post asking Oppo which type of tires I should get for my Mazda 6. I decided on getting the General Gmax for reasons based mostly on price. After calling around to a few places I decided to call Discount Tire. They wanted my business so bad they dropped their price by $100, this includes the tires, installation and road hazard warrenty
. According to the sales man they do not prorate the tires with the warrenty, if it is above the minimum depth of
the tire they just throw a brand new tire for free.
Today I went and got them installed and to my surprise
it only took them 30 minutes to have the car completed. Overall I am very satisfied with them, everything went very smooth. They also will rotate your tires for free for life.
Has anyone else had dealings with them or know anyone who has?

I bought my snow tires from Discount tire
this year. The tires were in stock, cost less than tire rack and they had a $50 discount via a debit card. They did a good job on the balancing/installation
and did not dick around with anything. 10/10 would recommend. The other great thing is you can order pretty much any tire from their web site and have it shipped to your local Discount store for installation.

Discount Tire is usually my go-to if Tire Rack’s prices aren’t competitive.
Fun fact: Discount Tire also usually patches tires for free, even if you didn’t buy them there.

They had to order mine also, but they got them the next day so it all worked out great!

I’ve bought 2 sets of tires from them. They did a good job on mounting them, no scratches on the wheels. However I will no longer go there for the free rotations. Last time I went the tech let the socket slap around while removing the lug nuts and chipped the paint around every lug nut hole. You’d think they would all use the sockets designed for lug nuts to prevent this sort of thing. I could of probably gone ape shit and had them agree to get the wheels refurbished, but honestly I was more afraid of the paint not holding up as well as the paint from the factory.
What I liked about Discount was they only do tires. They don’t try to upsell every customer (brake jobs, alignments, tie rods, etc..) like many of their c ompetitors do (**cough NTB**).

We’ve used them in the family for probably 20 years for certain things. Overall, they’re pretty good and the bad experiences have been few and far between. If you’re only doing two tires, they flat out refuse to put them anywhere but on the back of a car. I also wouldn’t take anything special to them, or at least not the whole car. The one and only time I took my whole corvette to them for some new shoes instead of just throwing wheels in the back of the truck and dropping them off, it took immediate action on my part to prevent a tech from putting holes in the floor of the car from not knowing where and how to lift a C4.
A tech there also once had his cheating phone ( dick pics included) fall out of his pocket and end up under the seat. I found it a few weeks later cleaning out the inside of the car. It only had like four or five phone numbers in it, and once we found a face pic we recognized the guy from discount tire... They once treated my sister dismissively and gave her a non-matching tire on a road hazard claim, but a different location made things right on that situation in the end. Some locations are better than others.
Discount is my go to for buying truck tires, because shipping costs tend be killer on them due to shipping weight (although Amazon prime changes things when they have what you want) . The free flat repairs are awesome, and the free rotations and lifetime balances are handy for some situations. They’re pretty good about price matching stuff, and there was once a set of truck tires that I ended up being really unhappy with that they worked out a deal to replace them with something else at a very significant discount. They also will actually do a decent job of mounting and balancing race tires, but at a very significant cost.

I bought tires from Discount Tire last year and was not impressed.
Problems:
Tires not in stock despite website saying they were.
Once delivered, they took over 3 hours to install two tires (I was waiting long after the store closed, and this was for a scheduled installation ).
Added a $20/tire road hazard plan to my bill without asking me.
The tires they installed, while definitely not used, were already ~ 2.5 years old.
No locations where I am now, so that road hazard policy isn’t worth much.
Their waiting room music was all horrible covers, somehow it was really disconcerting that each song was just a bit off.

I’ve used them for a few years now...they are always quick, price match any one else, and free rotations every 5k miles is nice too. I haven’t bought the road hazard warranty though and so far have never needed it.

I was hesitate on the road hazard warrenty as well, but my tires are low profile and if i run over a nail or anything and I cant patch it I have to buy a new tire. Whil e my last tires I got burned from not buying it and I dont want to repeat that again.

Grumble grumble. There isn't a discount tire even remotely close to me. And it's not like I live in the middle of nowhere. I live just outside of Philly. Maybe someday.

I go back and forth between them and a local-ish chain, Les Schwab (I mean, they have like 500 locations in nine states, so not exactly a mom and pop operation). In my experience both have reasonably knowledgeable employees and offer good customer service and price-matching, will happily fix a flat for free or cheap if you’re a customer, etc. The reason I go back and forth between the two is that there’s a Les Schwab closer to my house and I like the idea of being able to pull into a Discount Tire (or America’s Tire) anywhere in the country while on a road trip if I get a flat.

Used them for years, but stopped when the founder decided to use the stores in order to campaign for Joe Arpaio. I don’t really care if an owner’s politics are different than mine, but campigning for that racist blow hard at your store ls is a bit much, especially when everyone knew he was on his way out.
Ordered my last set of tires for my Jeep (33” Toyo Open Countries) from tiresdirect.net. 20% off and free shipping.
The founder is dead now, but I don’t think I’ll be back.

I too bought G-max AS05 recently. Discount Tire did not offer me very competitive pricing so I ordered from tire buyer and had an independent local shop install. In total I think it was $615 installed with tax for 18” tires.
Unfortunately I now have a very slight wobble in my steering whee at 60ish and the shop when I brought it back pointed out the wheel had a slight bend and then shrugged their shoulders.
I’m going to find someone who can try to straighten it and/or road force balance.
What do you think of the generals? I’ve been happy so far with mine.

I take all my Lexuses to them and I’ve never had a complaint, they’re usually pretty quick. They also switch my winter/summer sets free of charge which is nice.

Check out tire sdirect.net for truck tires. They usually offer free shipping and don’t charge sales tax (if you’re a good boy, you’ll report it on your state sales tax). Bought some Toyos fo r my Jeep from them.

Ive got some General Altimax RT43s from discount. They had the best price and I’ve already had 1 tire replaced for free with their road hazard. $20 for road hazard on the new tire and they’ve always been reasonably quick with mounting and balancing and whatnot, no complaints.

We’ve been using discount tire exclusively for the Jaguars and the Mercedes for about 4 years now and they are really the most convenient of anyone. I just pick my tire, throw it into Google to find the lowest price for the size, then go into Discount tire, have them ordered, and they price match anybody at intstall. At my location, I can usually be in and out in and hour.
The only issue I’ve had with them was when I swapped the crappy aftermarket rims that came with my S600 out for factory wheels. I tried to have it done at work (a brand new GM dealership) and the first tire was destroyed during dismount. I had done a considerable amount of research into the crappy Mandrus line of rims, and I knew they were sold at Discount tire. So I threw on my spare and went that Saturday. Now, the only guy who worked on my car at work was an ASE Certified World Tech - not a dumb guy...he could do Corvette tires! So imagine my surprise when the guy at the discount tire counter says, “Oh, no those Mandrus wheels are reverse mount.” Nary a single physical feature or dimension of that rim would give you the slightest inclination that it was reverse mount. I said that was rediculous and surely if true the internet would be lousy with people raging against Mandrus for all the tires destroyed by non-discount tire employees.
His response, “No. They wouldn’t tell you that on the internet. But we can sell you a new tire at full retail and charge you for 4 re-mounts.”
I said, "Really? There exists information that is not on the intetnet? I find that hard to believe." He didn't have a response for that. I demanded the new tire for $50 off and still got ripped off I feel. But I still use them. I just deal exclusively with the manager now.
