It’s just a wheel... While it might be annoying, it’s no big deal. My wife texted me that she was rear-ended by a c op and that she was alright a few years back , then wouldn’t answer her phone. My mind instantly went to her car being totally creamed by a cop in a high speed pursuit. It was an off-duty officer who zoned out at a stop light and gently rolled forward bumping into the rear bumper of her Jetta. Not even a scratch. I wish she would have just said that to begin with... Sometimes trying to soften the blow makes it far worse!

This is why I prefer cars that are harder to curb. AKA, with decent ride height. Right now, I’m driving a rental 2018 Hyundai Elantra, and I’ve curbed the bottom side of the front bumper a handful of times.

I hate that fucking car, and fuck every car designer who thinks it’s a great idea to give the front end of a car less than 8 inches of clearance.

I own a Crown Victoria. It’s a land-yacht. I have to park the front wheels up against a curb in a parking spot if I want to make sure the rear doesn’t stick out into the lane of traffic.

It’s been a force of habit that I’ve been changing since I’ve been renting the Elantra. I still extremely disagree with the idea of having such low clearance with these cars.

In fact, I disagree with nearly every design decision (outside of safety) that has made these cars the equivalent of a glass sculpture where even the slightest dent or scratch would ruin its value forever.

These are cars that should be sturdy, and capable of handling day to day driving rather than being what amounts to looking like garage queens, and demanding to be treated like garage queens.

one of the biggest arguments my wife and I have ever had started because she ran the side of her car into the door of the garage. You have to make a short 90 degree turn to pull into out garage and I guess she turned to early. It actually did more damage to the door frame than her car.

Hopefully it’s just the wheel? A little bit of curbing is normal for normal people driving cars apparently. That is the only thing that annoys me about my STi, the slight curbing on the wheels. I never ever curb my damn wheels, its just silly to do that.

Just hang on till the next time you need tires and get a refinished OE wheel to replace it. They’ll probably give you more than 50% of the cost for this wheel. (Hell, I’ve seen some places do a flat fee for stuff this minor.)

If it’s a daily driven car, you’ll eventually curb the wheels yourself.

Just get it touched up at a wheel shop when you accumulate enough damage.  I plan the same for my Jag which I’ve curbed more than twice in the past 6 months.

It really isn’t bad. And yes, that includes looking at it as someone who cares about wheel rash. Unless she kept driving and somehow managed to re-machine the whole face of the wheel with a curb......Th at’d be pretty fucked. But that’s not bad at all. I’d say an amateur could fix it in a jiffy. Wouldn’t be pristine but it’d be close enough for the next average person.
