"Quadradeuce" (quadradeuce)

Spotted on the morning commute. It’s hard to see in the pic, but his truck was sitting waaaay low in the back. 3/4 ton pickup in case you’re wondering.
(Yes, I know, I’m taking a picture while driving. This guy was going slow and there was no one in front or behind me for a mile. I still felt dirty doing it, and I need to
get a dash cam already!)

That’s like my 5 car dream garage right there.

I’m sure his transmission is just fine...

That’s a whole lot of weight. I’m not sure that should even be towed by a 3/4 ton with a 5th wheel

No wonder he’s sagging, he loaded the swedish tank up front!

I’m sure you could offer him $5k for the whole rig and walk away with it...

Missing wheels and all?

Definitely over capacity. He should be pulling maybe half that, tops.

Probably attached to a bumper hitch too. I dropped down a gear and put some distance between us after I snapped this pic, so I didn’t look at the hitch. There have been several bad accidents on this stretch of road in the last week, and I didn’t want to be added to that tally.

Considering the current generation in the towing capacity arms race is rated to 14,500 max which is probably only with a fifth wheel/goose neck yea, this is probably way over the bumper tow capacity of that truck. I bet that load is around 20,000 lbs if not more.

I’ll give GM credit, this era of truck is a tank. My dad has two of them, a ‘95 and a ‘99, that he used for his business and kept after retirement
. Never had a problem with either engine or transmission
. Both still running strong well into
6 figure miles.

Looks like he did a good job strapping down the two bottom cars (enough to crush the bodywork on the Taurus) , and the hood of the third, but then didn’t have any straps long enough so just left everything else to gravity and that one cord/cable/rope/whatever over the top.

I don’t see a single strap on the Green Escort Wagon. I also need a trailer this large for reasons but I would get a goose neck.

My coworker and I just noticed
that. I have no idea what is really holding that green wagon to the trailer. Gravity?

That’s just stupid, and I happen to know how that particular stupid ends. I once got paid to rescue a “ professional” drift team from CA that crashed in NM using a triple axle bumper pull trailer like that to tow three drift cars to some big event on the East Coast. It was stupid amount of tongue weight for the one-ton dually I owned at the time. I can’t imagine trying to tow something like that with a 3/4 ton.
The story got even better, because it was a trailer one of them had borrowed (the story was the trailer belong to a movie studio who used it to move prop cars around their yard) , it had no working trailer brakes on any of the three axles, it had a variety of well used, mi smatch ed passenger car tires in various 16" sizes that had nowhere near the load rating of the 10 ply trailer tires that were supposed to be on it , no working lights, being towed by an Excursion, that was being driven by three guys who’s sum total of towing experience was that one of them had once towed a jet ski a few miles. It blows my mind that they made it as far as Eastern NM before crashing. Their method of tying down the cars was pretty creative, too, and it resulted in significant damage to all three cars as they hit each other on the trailer in the accident.
The story was the trailer started swaying in a construction zone, bounced off a concrete K-rail and then eventually passed the E xcursion , ripping the entire hitch of the truck’s frame before the truck went its own way and rolled over a couple of times . The guys actually walked away. We got the call through some mutual friends in the racing world that they would pay for someone to help them out. We winched what was left of the Excurs ion onto the 52 foot car trailer pulled by the F-450, and managed to get what was left of the trailer and drift cars attached my GMC 3500 dually and limped it back to Albuquerque before it got completely dark.
After a day spent patching up parts of the mangled trailer, securing what was left of the drift cars, making a certain percentage of the lights work and getting trailer brakes to work on a couple of the axles, they paid me 3 grand to tow that menagerie of woe back to LA. I’m sure they had fun giving that mangled trailer back with a severely bent tongue and mangled coupler.

It’s amazing no one was killed. A few years back we had a trailer detach from a bumper hitch (took the whole hitch with it), cross the median on the interstate, and plow into a college kid coming home from classes, killing her. Now they are putting up wire barriers down all the medians, but it’s people like the guy in my picture that cause these situations.
I’m actually going to send this picture in to the state patrol. Hopefully they revoke his DOT number at a minimum.

The red straps are likely going up through the front subframe on the Escort. Which is a fucking terrible idea.

I really don’t think the hood strap is enough on that Grand Marquis, he’s got a black line running down the center of the trailer, and it seems tight on the Taurus, but looks like it’s just loosely touching the Mercury, nowhere near enough to keep the rear end from swinging lose.
