The same one seemed to be for sale in Poland years ago. The plates seem to be renewed between the pictures but the faded nationality sticker in the window tells that it has been in Poland for long time.

Poland seems to favor “high window hearses” so I don’t think that this used to be a hearse.

This was made long before the wall fell, so this wasn’t sold new in Poland. It might have been used as a hearse in Germany.

I thought that German hearses were also mostly “high window” models. The color would pass as factory color. Of course it could be repainted with a factory color too.

The old sales ad where those pictures are related also told that it had a column shifter. I haven’t heard that W123s would have been offered with a 3 passenger front seat so it’s probably unrelated to the passenger amount.

When looking for “w123 Leichenwagen” (German for hearse) I get hits like these:

I’m not sure what you mean with “high window”, but the Polish w123 does seem to fit in with the others.

I would say it is a wagon limousine. That is awesome!

Yeah. I tried with the same search words.

Out of these I would say that the first one would be a high window model but the rest somewhat normal. The last one does have a raised roof though. The middle one looks very nice for a hearse.

Here in Finland US made wagons were enough large to work as hearses with a factory body. But the rest usually came with enlarged bodies.
