I started watching Overwatch League and I really like it. I also started watching English Premier League this year and I think that I prefer OWL. For those who don’t know Overwatch, it’s a game made by Blizzard where the focus is team based combat and each player plays a character with a unique set of skills (unfortunately, none of the characters are Liam Neeson) where a team’s composition can dictate a win or loss.
It’s incredibly nerdy, but it has elements of sport that are familiar to anyone who follows any sport: a championship, teams, divisions and playoffs. However, like any other sport it makes no fucking sense if you’re completely new to it (even moreso if you’re not a gamer) and it helps to watch it with someone who knows the sport and you also enjoy hanging out with (the latter point is actually more important).
Side rant: I’ve compared OWL to sports but never called it a sport. I don’t even like the term “e-sports” - this just isn’t a sport. Literally, a sport is “an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.” It’s the physical exertion that differentiates sports and gaming, despite the many parallels. That’s not to say that gaming doesn’t produce its own physical effects - i.e. increased heart rate, sweating (kind of like in real sport) - but I find that gaming is its own specialized set of skills. This is not an inherently negative trait since a great sportsman isn’t necessarily a great gamer and vice-versa. However, it does require an incredible amount of communication, on-the-fly decision-making, planning, hand-eye coordination (different to real life), and spatial awareness (again, different to real life) to play at a high level, just like sports.
Maybe e-sports is the best term for this, but I don’t treat it like sport. Many would argue motorsports isn’t technically sport, but that is an argument I can easily counter (i.e. I’ve never pulled weights using my head/neck, like F1 drivers do, plus the fitness needed for physical stamina, and all the other crazy shit like triathlons and cycling and whatever).
This, along with my video game music post from earlier this week have actually made me recede into virginity.

That is a really solid whisky, I’m happy that it’s Canadian. I’ve been regularly getting it since they released it.
I’m still at work, I’ll likely be having beer later, but we’ll see.

Nothing wrong with beer during lunch on a Saturday, is there?
That said, I love coffee.

I wish you the best of luck at work, and I hope that beer is satisfying.
Ever since I found out about this whiskey I’ve bought it on nearly every trip to the liquor store. It’s excellent, although I have many single malts I prefer over it. However, on a dollar/taste ratio, this wins hands-down. It’s easily my favourite whiskey.

Souther Tier Harvest special ale, Troegs Hop knife, and some Festbeer a German lager from Catawba brewery. Cheers

I haven’t tried many single malts, one of the only ones I’ve tried, and loved, was the Glenlivet 15. I think you’re right about the dollar/taste ratio, I’ve yet to beat it.

Cheers! I’ve never heard of any of these beers but it’s always nice to have a variety. Are they your regular go-tos?

Two are semi local NC beers but Southern Tier is from NY and on the east coast its a pretty big brewer. As far as go tos I’m more of a wanderer. I like them all so every week I just buy random assortments and I’m rarely disappointed. So much good beer out there these days its hard to have a favorite.

I’m not particularly picky when it comes to drink but I do enjoy Glenlivet in its many varieties.
Depending on where you are, some of the more reasonably priced single malts I love are Glenmorangie Original (or whatever their cheapest one is in the orange box) and Aberlour 10 yo. Both run around $65/bottle in Ontario.
If you ever get the opportunity, try Japanese single malts as well. I had one in Japan called Yamazaki and I fell in love with it. In Japan it’s not a bad price relative to what you pay here for whiskey, but our government-controlled liquor stores don’t stock Yamazaki at all (and for those of you suggesting to go to a non-government-controlled store such a thing doesn’t exist here). I had tried a bunch of them and I enjoyed all of them, but Yamazaki stands out to me.

That’s pretty much what I do. I might find favourites which I’ll buy on back-to-back trips but I like to mix it up when it comes to beer.

Rye serms to be the cool ‘new’ thing of late. I’m glad for it.

Are there a lot of vineyards in VA? I don’t drink a lot of wine but VA is not a place I recognize as a wine-growing area. I think all of the US wines I’ve drank are from California.

I shall check those out, thanks for the tips.
I went through Ontario in 2014 and was mind blown that private liquor stores weren’t a thing. Here I was thinking we had a rough time in BC with liquor...

Supposedly, they have something like 230 wineries, they’re the 5th biggest wine producing state, behind California, New York, Washington, and Oregon. My native Pennsylvania is somewhere in the top 10, as well.
I stopped by this one last year and did a tasting and loved everything they had. They don’t ship to my state, so a couple months ago, I stopped in again when I was passing through the area and bought a few cases.

Fuckin hell, I’ve never looked into American wines other than those from California. You’ve given me a lot to look into (a.k.a. drink).
